SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A former Border Patrol agent was sentenced Wednesday for trying to smuggle drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border while on duty in 2016.Noe Lopez, 37, of Chula Vista, was sentenced to 70 months in prison for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine and cocaine in exchange for cash. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A 74-year-old man reportedly hit a bicyclist with his truck in La Mesa Tuesday before leaving the scene thinking he simply hit a curb, police say. According to police, the crash happened on the 7000 block of University Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the 74-year-old was driving his 1994 GMC pick-up truck when he turned right onto Harbinson Avenue and struck the 21-year-old bicyclist. Police say the cyclist was in a designated bicycle lane. The man kept driving, thinking he hit a curb, according to authorities. “When contacted by the police the driver of the pick-up truck was shocked to learn that he had hit a bicyclist and cooperated fully with the investigation,” La Mesa Police said in a news release. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) -- A suspected arsonist was arrested for allegedly starting a series of brush fires in Otay Mesa West, Sunday afternoon. MAST (Metro Arson Strike Team) investigators booked 49 year-old Ramon Guevara for arson.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the blaze broke out just after 10:30 near 4th Avenue and Private Road. The fires were ignited in the valley at Otay Valley Regional Park.Crews say at least 10 spot fires started along the road and, as of 12:30 p.m., and had burned three acres. Sunday marked the third day in a row small brush fires popped up in the area. Units from the Chula Vista and San Diego fire departments and two firefighting helicopters joined to battle the flames. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A 24-year-old woman died early Saturday after a crash in the Paradise Hills neighborhood of San Diego.Officers responded to the 6400 block of Garber Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. and found the woman unconscious behind the wheel of a 2017 Ford Mustang.Police say the woman appeared to be driving in the southbound lane of Garber Ave. and for unknown reasons collided into an unoccupied parked rental box truck.The woman was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.Traffic investigators are investigating. 547

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the shooting death of his father inside their Scripps Ranch home.At 8:39 p.m. Sunday, San Diego police responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 11200 block of Affinity Court, near Scripps Ranch Boulevard.10News learned the suspected shooter's brother called 911 to report the incident.Officers arrived to find a 46-year-old Vietnamese man lying on a bedroom floor with at least one gunshot wound to his upper body. After life-saving efforts by paramedics, the man -- who was not immediately identified -- was pronounced dead at the scene.Officers combed the condominium complex and nearby area for the suspected shooter, who was identified as the victim’s 15-year-old son, but could not immediately locate him. Authorities later added that the boy is a Mira Mesa High School student. At about 1 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a reported sighting on Scripps Poway Parkway and saw the boy walking down the street. He was apprehended, and 10News learned the boy had a gun and additional ammunition with him at the time of his arrest. 1133
