Times Square was a hive of activity Tuesday afternoon, as more than 40,000 bees swarmed a hot dog stand at the corner of Broadway and West 43rd Street.Known as an absconded hive, the bees were looking for a new home to escape the sweltering heat, said Officer Darren Mays, one of the New York Police Department's two official beekeepers."The hive got overcrowded because it was hot and humid and they just needed a new place to go so they can keep cool," Mays said. He also runs the official NYPD Bees Twitter account, which was buzzing with likes and retweets as many New Yorkers learned that their police force had beekeepers on staff.Mays said the bees likely went looking for a new home after leaving one of the rooftop hives of a nearby building.Second-beekeeper-in-command, Officer Michael Lauriano, responded to the scene in full protective gear, including a netted bee helmet. It took Lauriano 45 minutes to carefully vacuum the bees. The street was cordoned off and no injuries were reported, according to the NYPD.Mays confirmed the bees have been safely stored in a hive box and are being transported by police van to an apiary on Long Island."Unfortunately, they won't be able to make any honey this season," said Mays, explaining that they will have to be well fed to make it through the winter.Mays, who has served since 2014 as the NYPD's beekeeper in addition to his regular duties, said this has been one of the slowest bee seasons in recent years. TOWSON, Maryland — A Maryland pharmacist pleaded guilty to trading pain medication for sexual acts.Richard Daniel Hiller, of Owings Mills, Maryland appeared in court Friday when his plea was announced by United States Attorney for the District of Maryland Robert K. Hur; Chief Terrence B. Sheridan of the Baltimore County Police Department and other law enforcement officials. “Abuse of oxycodone and other pharmaceutical drugs is one of our most significant drug enforcement challenges," said U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur. "Those who divert pharmaceutical drugs for illegal purposes further the tragic cycle of addiction and the epidemic of opioid overdose deaths.” According to Hiller's plea agreement, he worked as a licensed pharmacist in Towson, Maryland from 2014 to 2017.Hiller admitted to filling fake prescriptions for multiple women if given sexual favors. He would tell the women to come to the pharmacy before opening and have sex with the women before giving the painkillers.Officials say, when trying to cover the false prescriptions he would list fake names. The women were addicted to oxycodone and would resell many of the pills to maintain their addiction.  Over the years, Hiller distributed approximately 20,500 15 milligram oxycodone pills.He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for the conspiracy and distribution. His sentencing is scheduled for November 15, 2018, at 10 a.m.  1507

Three people are currently battling for custody of the remains of infamous cult leader Charles Manson, who died in Bakersfield, California late last year.Jason Freeman, who claims to be Manson's grandson; Michael Brunner, who claims to be Manson's son and oldest living relative;, and Michael Channels, who was Manson's penpal for 30 years have all made claims to Masons's remains.Manson was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital Downtown last November before he eventually died. His body has been in the possession of Kern County since. In January, it was decided the fate of his remains would be decided through Kern County Superior Court. At the last hearing on Jan. 31, both Manson's son's and grandson's attorneys hinted at possibly joining forces. There have been multiple court hearings over who can lay claim to Manson's body and another to determine who will end up with his estate.
