BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Profits at Chinese industrial enterprises in 24 regions climbed 71.8 percent year on year to 1.61 trillion yuan (237.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Wednesday. The growth rate was 11.2 percentage points lower than that in the first five months, the NBS said in a statement.Combined revenues for the enterprises totaled 25.9 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, up 36.5 percent from a year earlier - a growth rate 2.4 percentage points lower than in the January-to-May period. Most of the 39 major industries posted year-on-year profit growth. The 24 regions comprise all of the Chinese mainland provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions except the Inner Mongolia and Tibet autonomous regions; Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces; and Chongqing.China's industrial value-added output expanded 17.6 percent year on year in the first half of the year. But month-on-month growth began to slow in March, with June's growth at 13.7 percent year on year.

XI'AN, July 17 (Xinhua) -- It is untrue to say that the investment environment in China is worsening, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Saturday as he invited more foreign companies to invest in the country.China sticks to its opening-up policy, Wen added. In talks with heads of prestigious German and Chinese firms in northwest China's Xi'an city, Wen and visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel aim to boost cooperation between the two nations."Currently, there is an allegation that China's investment environment is worsening. I think it is untrue," said Wen when answering a question from Juergen Hambrecht, chief executive of German chemical company BASF.Foreign firms have voiced concern China's indigenous innovation policy might provide incentives for government bodies to purchase products developed by Chinese companies. The World Bank in a July report gave China a low investment environment ranking. But the amount of foreign direct investment (FDI) that flowed into China in the first half of the year rose 19.6 percent year on year, according to data from the Ministry of Commerce (MOC).China attracted 12.51 billion U.S. dollars in FDI in June alone, up 39.6 percent year on year.Wen said, "Foreign investment will not pour into a country where the investment environment is worsening."Wen said China has relatively good infrastructure as well as fair and stable market environment.

BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao said here Monday that China regards India as an important strategic partner of cooperation."We will work with India to maintain high level visits and take care of each other's core interests and major concerns," Wen said when meeting visiting Indian prime ministerial special envoy Shiv Shankar Menon.Wen also pledged to enhance dialogue and cooperation with India to benefit the two peoples, and make joint efforts to promote world peace and common prosperity.Hailing the 60-year diplomatic ties between China and India, Wen said the bilateral relationship has matured well, with deepening mutual political trust and remarkable achievements in cooperation in various sectors.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (1st R) meets with visiting Indian prime ministerial special envoy Shiv Shankar Menon (1st L), who served as Indian National Security Advisor, in Beijing, capital of China, on July 5, 2010.The two countries have also reached important agreements and made sound coordination in coping with the international financial crisis, climate change and other major issues, Wen noted.Wen said China and India, as neighbors and large developing nations with largest populations, enjoy not only profound historical and cultural origins but also broad common interests."A healthy, stable and dynamic China-India relationship is of far-reaching significance to the two nations, Asia and the whole world at large," he said.Wen also extended greetings to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the President of the Indian Congress Party Sonia Gandhi.Menon, who serves as Indian National Security Advisor, delivered Prime Minister Singh's letter to Premier Wen.Menon quoted Singh's saying that China is a great and friendly neighbor of India, and the relationship with China is one of the most important foreign relations for India. Both India and China have developed rapidly in recent years, and the two nations have established a strategic partnership of cooperation, with increasing mutual trust. BEIJING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- The State Council's policies to rein in rapidly soaring housing prices in cities will continue and local governments should implement them "unswervingly", according to a statement released Monday from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, while also denying some media reports on a possible policy withdrawal."We will urge local governments to make sure that they strictly implement the differentiated housing loans policy to crack down on housing speculations," the ministry said in a brief statement posted on its website. The ministry added it would adopt "positive" measures to increase the supply of commercial homes in the market, speed up construction of housing for low-income residents and renovation of shantytowns, and strengthen supervision of the real estate market conditions. The statement came shortly after the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) released its latest figures on housing prices in Chinese cities.Housing prices in major Chinese cities rose 11.4 percent year on year in June, one percentage point lower than the increase in May, according to NBS statistics. This was the second consecutive month that China's property prices grew at a slower pace. Property prices in the 70 large- and medium-sized cities grew 12.4 percent year on year in May, 0.4 percentage point lower than in April. The State Council, China's Cabinet, introduced a series of tightening measures in April to rein in soaring house prices and curb speculation, including tightened scrutiny of developers' financing, suspension of loans for third-home purchases and higher down-payment requirements for second-home purchases.Housing prices almost doubled in some popular Chinese cities such as Beijing and Shanghai in 2009, prompting the Chinese government to take measures to curb these excessive hikes.
