We have verified with law enforcement officials in Galveston, that the photograph taken in Galveston is real. It is hard to understand why these officers felt this young man required a leash, as he was handcuffed and walking between two mounted officers. pic.twitter.com/bEFZnn4qmH— Adrienne Bell (@AdrBell) August 5, 2019 334

When an Oklahoma mother almost had her 4-year-old snatched from her hands, another mom standing close by jumped in to help. The two moms came together for the first time since the incident on Wednesday. On Saturday, LeeAnn Carrol says a man followed her and her four-year-old son Wyatt into a Tulsa Barnes and Noble. LeeAnn was nervous, so she kept hold of Wyatt's hand."He was telling my son he could pick anything out in the store, and he could just walk out and it's on him. And then it was like, 'just come over here Wyatt, let's go see this.' and I said, 'let's not,'" LeeAnn said. Then, the unthinkable happened, as LeeAnn says the man grabbed Wyatt and tried to run off. That's when Danielle Ritchie, another mother standing by, jumped in to help."He kept saying, 'whatever you want son, pick out whatever you want, I'll buy it, son'," Danielle said. "I don't even know, it was so quick, I just remember grabbing his arm and saying 'no'."Danielle was in the store with her two daughters and her husband Cory. Cory stopped the man before he could leave the children's section, and shortly after police arrested him."It was just frightening, very frightening," LeeAnn said. "I'm still shaking about it, I'll probably never let go of that."Wyatt is fine, but his mom is still terrified."I don't want to leave him alone, I don't want to leave him out of my sight," LeeAnn said.Danielle says it's a moment she will never forget."It was worse than a nightmare," Danielle said.As mothers, they both have the same message after the close call. They warn parents to watch their surroundings, and if anything seems off, take the chance to step in.This article was written by Chris DiMaria for 1700

WASHINGTON — In a surprise move, the Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by a sizable half-percentage point in an effort to support the economy in the face of the spreading coronavirus, or COVID-19. Chairman Jerome Powell noted that COVID-19 “poses evolving risks to economic activity." According to 324

US tennis star Mike Bryan has been fined ,000 for pretending to shoot an on-court line judge with his racket at the US Open Sunday. The doubles player was initially handed a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct by chair umpire Mariana Alves during his second-round win with brother Bob against Federico Delbonis and Roberto Carballés Baena.Bryan had successfully challenged the line judge's decision after replays on the big screen showed the ball had landed narrowly behind the baseline. After the call was corrected, Bryan mimicked a rifle with his racket and aimed it at the line judge in question.'Meant to be playful'The incident came on the same day that a series of new firearm laws went into effect in Texas just hours after a shooting left seven people dead in the western part of the state. The new gun laws will further loosen gun restrictions in a state that's had four of the 10 deadliest mass shootings in modern US history, including the El Paso shooting last month, when a gunman stormed a Walmart and killed 22 people. The six-time US Open doubles champion later apologized for his actions, saying it was an honest mistake."We won the point and the gesture was meant to be playful," Bryan said in a statement given to the 1255

Two Democratic congresswomen on Tuesday introduced a bill that would block federal funding for the 2026 men's World Cup until the US Women's National Team earns "fair and equitable wages compared to the US men's team."The legislation, co-sponsored by Reps. Doris Matsui of California and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, comes amid the team's longstanding battle for equal pay.Months before the tournament, members of the Women's National team filed a lawsuit against the US Soccer Federation, claiming they deserve to be paid what the American men are paid for their international performances. In one hypothetical case cited in the lawsuit, if the women's and men's teams both won 20 straight games in a season, the women would make 38% what the men do.Matsui and DeLauro say the federal government shouldn't make any financial contribution for the 2026 tournament, which will be spread through venues across the US, Canada and Mexico, until the playing field is level for female athletes."Until the USSF provides real reforms ensuring equitable pay for our male and female athletes, the U.S. government has no business contributing potentially billions of dollars in support for the 2026 World Cup," Matsui said in a statement.DeLauro said federal funding for the men's tournament in 2026 would be "encouraging the pay gap to continue.""Congress needs to ensure women in the same job are getting the same pay," DeLauro said in a statement. Two weeks ago, Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin introduced a Senate version of the bill, which would similarly block federal funding until US Soccer agrees to "provide equitable pay."Still, it's unclear just how much money would actually be withheld if the bills succeed in Congress. 1728
