SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A ring-tailed lemur that was stolen from the San Francisco Zoo this week has been found.The 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was discovered missing shortly before the zoo opened to visitors on Wednesday. Investigators found evidence of a forced entry to the lemur enclosure.Someone called police Thursday evening to say that Maki was spotted in Daly City, a few miles south of the zoo.Police say the animal was found in the playground area of a church.Maki was found to be in good health and was transported back to the zoo.Detectives are still investigating the break-in.?? SAN DIEGO, CA (KGTV) The two-year-old twin girls who were in a truck that sped off of Sunset Cliffs Saturday are recovering.That’s according to a family friend who started a GoFundMe campaign to help the twins’ mother with any expenses related to the crash.“She’s a great mother, she’s sticking strong through all of this, the girls are doing good,” said family friend Adrianna Lopez. “Money should be the last thing she needs to worry about, it’s just about keeping herself sane through all of this, her kids their health, mental, physical, everything.”Lopez and a family member tell 10News the girls are now stable. She said the twins just turned two years old in May.On Saturday, the toddlers were riding in a truck that San Diego Police say was driven by their father.Officers were warned to be on the lookout for a suicidal man threatening to drive off of the Coronado Bridge.Cellphone GPS data located the father, now identified as 47-year-old Robert Brians, at Sunset Cliffs.SDPD K9 Officer Jonathan Wiese was close by and jumped into action after the truck went over the cliffside.He and other first responders were able to save the twins and Brians.“The action that the first responders did, we’re just forever grateful, forever grateful,” said Lopez.Brians was arrested for two counts of attempted murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of burglary, and two counts of child cruelty.The San Diego District Attorney’s office said is has until Wednesday to make a filing decision. (KGTV) -- Three people are dead following a crash on Interstate 805 in University City.The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-805 at Miramar Road around 4:30 p.m.According to CHP, the crash happened after a wrong-way driver drove onto the road at a high rate of speed."Through the investigation, we will try to determined where this individual, if they got on the freeway the wrong way, where they got on," CHP Officer, Jake Sanchez said. Hector Puga was on his way to Los Angeles when the car in front of him combusted. He somehow managed to escape the crash and flames. "All I can do is hold onto the steering wheel and run over everything that exploded," Puga said. He escaped with just a flat tire and broken windshield.10News also spoke to a pair of sisters who had just finished up a fun day of shopping at UTC Mall when hopped into their car. Minutes later, they endured a near-death experience. "It was like a scene from a movie," she said. "All the cars were stopping. There was smoke. Fire. Loud noise. As soon as I look up in front of me, that car other there was flying and tumbling down the freeway."They said the driver of the flipped over SUV managed to crawl out of the car.  The survivors carried him to the shoulder, where an ambulance later picked him up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)  - San Diego State University unveiled Thursday details about its plan for a stadium in Mission Valley that could serve SDSU and a possible NFL team.The stadium is currently proposed as a home for the Aztecs, with 35,000 seats. It could be expanded into a 55,000 seat stadium for the NFL, according to SDSU athletic director John David Wicker.Details about the stadium include an aluminum-panel exterior designed to resemble boats. The panels would change color throughout the day and be illuminated with LED lighting at night.Other features include more than 82 suites, 50 loge boxes, two end-zone party decks, six exterior balconies, and five different club sections.The site would also offer 90,000 square feet of retail space.The stadium is being designed by global architecture and design firm Populous, which also designed Yankee Stadium, the London Olympics, and the Super Bowl.SoccerCity supporters, who want to bring a Major League Soccer team to Mission Valley, responded with a statement from SoccerCity project manager Nick Stone. 1077

(KGTV) - As deaths in the US from suicide and opioid overdose skyrocket, San Diego health leaders have plans already in action to fight the rising trend."People are living in a lot of pain," says Dana Richardson, who oversees the Community Health and Engagement department at the Community Health Improvement Partners (CHIP)."We're talking about promoting resilience, problem-solving skills and reducing isolation."In San Diego in 2017, 458 people committed suicide, and 1,266 people died from an overdose. Richardson says the link between the two can't be ignored.The Centers for Disease Control says those two factors are the reason that life expectancy dropped in the US for the first time in years. According to a CDC report, someone born in 2018 can expect to live to be 78.6 years old, down from 78.7 in 2017.While the drop is slight, the factors causing it are significant."This is a large epidemic across the country," says Dr. Sayone Thihalolipavan, a Deputy Public Health Officer for the County Department of Health and Human Services.Thihalolipavan says the county has already put out health alerts warning people about Fentanyl, a highly potent opioid that can cause a fatal overdose from just a few microscopic particles. They have also received several state and federal grants to buy thousands of doses of Naloxone, a drug used to fight the effects of an opioid overdose.Across the nation, Fentanyl was responsible for 28,466 of the 70,237 overdose-related deaths in 2017.Other grants have paid for the training of medical professionals in the East County, where overdose numbers are higher. They're teaching doctors, nurses and pharmacists about which opioids are safer to prescribe, and in what amount. The hope is the training will help people avoid addiction and dependency, which can lead to abuse.Other health officials are looking at the link between alcohol abuse and suicides.A recent county study showed that the top three areas in San Diego for suicide rates all rank in the top five for the prevalence of alcohol licenses and sales. Richardson believes that shows alcohol's role in people choosing to take their own life."It's a mind-altering drug," he says.The county also has a website, Up2SD.org and a crisis hotline (888-724-7240) set up for anyone who needs help. 2321
