SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police said a mother was drunk and driving her children when she crashed going the wrong way on a Rancho Bernardo street Monday morning.The crash happened about 4:30 a.m. on Camino del Norte, just west of Interstate 15. The woman drove her Chevy SUV east in the westbound lanes of the road, hitting a man in a Jeep Liberty.Officers told 10News the mother, who is in her 30s, had her 8-year-old child in the backseat with her 2-year-old child in a car seat. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego State University is going to lose its one and only Christian sorority house. Builders plan to tear it down and put up more housing for students.Alpha Delta Chi sorority sister Madison Zeber walked us through the halls of the sorority house near campus, where 15 women live. The walls are covered with old, handwritten messages of faith. On the outside of the house, there’s a new message. A notice was recently posted by the City of San Diego, of plans to close the only Christian sorority. A private party plans to replace it with 42 units of new housing, intended for students. A neighboring single-family home and fraternity house will also be lost. “It would definitely be heart-breaking,” says sorority sister Carissa Thompson. She was a transfer student and has been living in the house for a year. “Coming here, I definitely wanted to make sure that I had a good, Christian community and I definitely found that here.”The SDSU Research Foundation owns and leases the houses, and tells 10News that the development plans were announced last fall. The sisters won't have to vacate the sorority house until 2020, when their lease is up. “We're trying to fight for this and take it one step at a time,” says the sorority president Alexis Kojo.It’s just one of a series of housing concerns for SDSU students. By this fall, all current, non-local sophomore students must live on-campus. It's called the Sophomore Success Program. Some students say it’s a costly requirement for those of little means, but the school's website reads, “Data show that students who live on campus are better prepared academically, enjoy an increased sense of community and campus connectedness, and graduate at faster rates than those who do not.”Alpha Delta Chi’s lot will not be used for Sophomore Success Program, but that doesn't change much for these sisters. No matter what, they'll have to start packing. “Our way of connecting to the school would be gone. Our sense of identity as Christians on this campus [and] SDSU students would be kind of taken away,” adds Kojo.The sorority says there are public meetings to discuss the redevelopment plans. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Board of Supervisors announced 11 legally enforceable health orders to combat the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.The new health orders included:All public or private “gatherings,” defined as any event or convening that brings together 50 or more people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, theater, church, casino, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other theater, church, casino, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space, are prohibited. All non-essential gatherings of any size are strongly discouraged;All bars, adult entertainment establishments, and other business establishments that serve alcohol and do not serve food, shall close;All restaurants and other business establishments that serve food shall close all on-site dining. All food served shall be by delivery, or through pick-up or drive thru. Social distancing shall be required for persons picking up food on site.All businesses shall enact social distancing, increased sanitation standards, and shall make every effort to use telecommuting for its workforce. All businesses shall suspend any policy or procedure requiring doctor verification for sick or other leave approval;All public or private schools, colleges, and universities shall not hold classes or other school activities where students gather on the school campus. Parents of school-aged minor children shall take steps to ensure said children are not participating in activities prohibited by the Order and that social distancing requirements are practiced;A strong recommendation is made that all persons who are 65 years old or older, have a chronic underlying condition, or have a compromised immune system self-quarantine themselves at home;“Non-essential personnel,” defined as employees, contractors, or members of the public who do not perform treatment, maintenance, support, or administrative tasks deemed essential, are prohibited from entry into any hospital or long-term care facility. All essential personnel who show any potential signs or symptoms of COVID-19 shall be strictly prohibited from entry into hospitals or long-term care facilities;Hospitals and healthcare providers shall take measures to preserve resources including delaying non-emergent or elective surgeries or procedures where feasible;Hospitals, healthcare providers, and commercial testing laboratories shall report all COVID-19 test results to the Public Health Officer immediately after such results are received;All persons arriving in the county, from locations as found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Warning Level 3 Travel Advisory shall be subject to 14-day home quarantine, self-monitoring;A strong recommendation is made for persons exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms of COVID-19 to self-isolate themselves in their place of residence unless seeking medical treatmentThe new orders go into effect at 12 a.m. Tuesday."It is not a request, it is not a suggestion. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Statewide DUI arrests and fatalities saw a significant increase over Christmas weekend. A total of 47 people died in DUI-related crashes in 2018 compared to 27 deaths over the same time period in 2017. DUI arrests also saw a significant rise. More than 1,100 people were arrested for DUI in 2018 compared to 917 in 2017. In San Diego County, three people died due to DUI-related crashes, tying with 2017. DUI arrests rose slightly from 56 to 57 in 2018. The reporting period for the arrests and deaths was Friday, December 21 through Tuesday, December 25. 584
