President Donald Trump tweeted on Friday that he has signed an executive order calling for stiff punishment against those who damage statues and monuments.The order comes days after protesters attempted to topple a statue of President Andrew Jackson from Lafayette Park near the White House. Dozens of officers moved in to push the protesters back.In recent weeks, there have been calls from supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement to remove statues and monuments of those tied to slavery and the Confederacy. Those calls have been met with swift opposition from Trump and fellow Republican leaders.But the movement has found support from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Califfornia, who has asked for 11 statues in the Capitol of Confederate leaders being removed from the complex. “We are looking at long-term jail sentences for these vandals and these hoodlums and these anarchists and agitators,” Trump said earlier this week.Trump later added in an interview with Fox News, “We should learn from the history. And if you don’t understand your history, you will go back to it again."“I just had the privilege of signing a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues - and combatting recent Criminal Violence. RAMONA (KGTV)— Representative Duncan Hunter -R (CA-50) kicked off his Memorial Day weekend in Ramona, at a town hall-style meeting. He and his father, former Congressman Duncan Hunter Sr. - R were guest speakers at "The Border: Then and Now!" event, hosted by a conservative group, American Liberty Forum- Ramona. The elder Hunter remembered San Ysidro during his early years in Congress in the 1980s and 1990s. "The border was a no-man's land. And everybody knows that here, that you didn't go to the border when it was close to being dark," Hunter Sr. said. Border Patrol statistics showed in 1986, San Diego agents apprehended nearly 630,000 people attempting to cross the border illegally. But double-layer fencing dropped that number to close to 32,000 arrests in 2016. They also argued that crime numbers dipped, and the economy boomed in that time. Because of these, both Hunters said they support the President's Border Wall plan. "If you can move troops to Syria, then you can move troops to the border, and build a wall on the border, and say it is in the interest of national security," the current Congressman said. But Friday, a federal judge temporarily blocked the President's plan to transfer military funds to build more border fencing. This was something that the Congressman did not agree with. "His lawyers need to fight it. They need to do it now, and it should go up to the Supreme Court," Hunter said. Hunter also told the audience at Ramona MainStage that he is on board with the President's new merit-based immigration policy. "You get to come here, if you're worth having here," Hunter Jr. said. "I know that sounds mean, but just because you want to come here from another country, doesn't mean you get to."When asked about agricultural and construction jobs, Hunter Jr. admitted that they need to work on special provisions."We understand the needs especially in California and other agricultural states, where they need people to work here, and most Americans don't want those jobs, and they're not going to to do those jobs," Hunter said. Rescuers with high-water vehicles have been rescuing people on the Gulf Coast cut off by floodwaters after Hurricane Sally. Crews were pulling people out of flooded areas Thursday near Pensacola, Florida, while Alabama National Guard troops helped people evacuate near Mobile Bay. Homeowners and businesses along the soggy Gulf Coast were cleaning up, even as some communities dealt with flooding from rivers and creeks swollen by the storm’s heavy rains. RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The forward rate of spread has been stopped after a fire scorched several acres in Rancho Santa Fe Tuesday afternoon. According to Cal Fire, the blaze started on the 6000 block of Avenida Cuatro Vientos around 2 p.m. The agency said the fire burned through two to three acres. A resident of the neighborhood was at work and said his wife called him, crying and concerned about the flames moving up the hill."Fortunately, my next-door neighbor, who's been here for over 30 years, had a portable pool pump," said Dr. Afshar. "And he was the first to arrive on action to put out the flames that were in our backyard. By the time he had it controlled, the fire department was here."The homeowner believes the fire may have been started by crews hired to clear brush.Witnesses report seeing smoke as far away as Interstate 15.
