TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Cal Fire firefighters based in San Diego were injured after the engine they were riding in flipped over, ABC30 reports. The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. near Avenue 56 and Road 250 in rural Tulare County, the station reports. The driver of the engine reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to flip over and injuring four firefighters. Three firefighters were injured and taken to the hospital following the rollover. Cal Fire says two of the firefighters have since been released while the third will remain in the hospital overnight for observation. The crew is based in San Diego and were heading home from battling the Creek Fire when the crash took place. 719

Twenty Republican senators are urging FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn to declare a commonly used abortion pill as an "imminent hazard to the public health," a designation that would ban the drug in the U.S. and conceivably limit abortions across the country.In a letter published on the website of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, the lawmakers ask Hahn to ban Mifeprex, and its generic counterpart, mifepristone. In their letter, the senators say the drug "should never have been approved."The request comes amid a court battle over laws that require women to pick up the pill in person, even if they had already consulted with a doctor.Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration chose to keep those requirements in place. In May, the ACLU sued, arguing that the laws placed an undue burden on women seeking a legal right to an abortion during the pandemic. In July, a Maryland judge sided with the ACLU, granting their request for a preliminary injunction that would allow the drug to be delivered through the mail during the pandemic.According to the ACLU's lawsuit, mifepristone is the only drug in a list of 20,000 FDA-approved drugs that require doctors to distribute in person but can be taken while not in the care of a doctor.The senators' letter claims that it is "unconscionable" that the drug is currently being prescribed without blood tests, ultrasounds and that doing so could lead to hemorrhaging and death. They also claim that without in-person requirements, women "will be left to engage in the form of "DIY" chemical abortion."However, according to a 2018 report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, complications from using abortions pills are "rare" and only occur in a "fraction" of patients. Smith is really like most Americans, except he is completely blind.“It’s called retinitis pigmentosa,” Smith explained.It’s a hereditary disease that slowly stole his sight.“Usually, it starts out in the periphery and slowly works its way in until it’s like you’re looking through a tube,” he said.Smith has had to relearn just about everything in his life“You know, things like brushing your teeth, finding clothes to wear,” Smith said. “I probably don’t match very well here today.”Technology has become like a best friend.“I use technology from the moment I get up from probably the moment I go to sleep,” Smith said.This past election cycle, he tried something for the first time.“Anything new or different to a blind person is scary,” Smith said.He voted entirely on his mobile phone using an app called “Voatz”His country was among several in the country participating in the pilot program. The pilot program was for voters who are either disabled or overseas at the time of the election.“My county has historically been a bit of a mess when it came to elections,” said Utah County clerk Amelia Gardner Powers.Gardner Powers decided to try and clean things up.“We deliver your ballot to you on your phone, you mark your preferences on your phone and then you submit it back to us,” Gardner Powers said. “We actually print off your ballot using a ballot printer and run those through the scanner with all of our other ballots.”She says the response has been phenomenal, especially in a year like 2020“People’s access to the polls has been limited. It’s not just one database that can be hacked and changed, it’s put into a kind of distributed database so if one is changed, all the others are not,” Johnson explained.Think of it like multiple virtual safety deposit boxes holding your vote.“This is safe and secure,” Johnson said. “It’s more secure than just showing your license when you show up at a junior high school gymnasium.”For Smith, it means voting without any help.“Well, this is the United States of America,” Smith said. “Voting is a patriotic thing to me. Tropical Storm Beta has made landfall on the Gulf Coast of Texas, bringing heavy rain and threats of flooding to the Lone Star state. At least two dozen water rescues were reported in Houston early Tuesday morning.
