Gavin Newsom's measures aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus unfairly target the industry and are demanding they be allowed to reopen.Scott Street, a lawyer for the California Fitness Alliance, said Tuesday that the suit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court. It accuses state and Los Angeles County officials of requiring gyms to close without providing evidence that they contribute to virus outbreaks and at a time when staying healthy is critical to residents.State and county officials declined to comment on the suit. 632
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Actor Danny Masterson has been charged with forcibly raping three women in separate incidents between 2001 and 2003.Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced Wednesday that Masterson is being charged with three counts of rape by force or fear.The “That '70s Show” actor, now 44, is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman between January and December 2001, according to the district attorney’s office.In April 2003, Masterson allegedly raped a 28-year-old woman.And sometime between October and December of 2003, he is accused of raping a 23-year-old woman who he had invited to his Hollywood Hills home.Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller of the Sex Crimes Division, who is prosecuting the case, said all of the alleged crimes occurred at the defendant’s home.Masterson’s arraignment is scheduled for September 18.If convicted as charged, Masterson faces a possible maximum sentence of 45 years to life in state prison.The district attorney’s office says it declined to file sexual assault charges against Masterson in two other cases, one for insufficient evidence and the other based upon the statute of limitations for the crime alleged.The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division. 1295

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and his wife confronted a home intruder who attempted to kidnap their grandchild over the weekend in California.According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Montana told deputies that his 9-month-old grandchild was sleeping in a playpen Saturday when an unknown woman entered their home in Malibu and grabbed the child.Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted the woman and asked her to give back their grandchild.After a tussle, law enforcement officials say Jennifer Montana pried the baby out of the woman's arms.The sheriff’s office says the woman, whom authorities identified as Sodsai Dalzell, fled the home but was later arrested. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A famous South American chef says he was stopped as he brought 40 piranhas in a duffel bag through Los Angeles International Airport.Virgilio Martinez, chef-owner of Central restaurant in Peru, tells the Los Angeles Times on Wednesday that he hoped to serve the predatory, sharp-toothed fish during an LA food festival.Martinez was featured in the third season of the Netflix show "Chef's Table."He says customs agents pulled him into an interrogation room last week when they found the cache of frozen, vacuum-sealed piranhas.After five hours, the agents let Martinez through with the fish. He used them that night on a salad.
