ROME, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China and Italy are working on a plan to expand their bilateral economic cooperation as the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Italy diplomatic ties is just round the corner, said Chinese Ambassador to Italy Ding Wei on Saturday.The Chinese government is happy to see an enhanced and deepened economic ties between the two countries, said Ding while meeting with Adriano Luci, chairman of the industry association in Italy's northeastern city of Udine.He said Udine enjoyed a well-developed industrial capacity and saw ever-closer ties among Chinese and Italian firms.Ding hoped the association could encourage its member companies to champion the cooperation between Chinese enterprises and their Italian counterparts so as to materialize common development.Luci briefed Ding on Udine's industrial development, its companies' investment in China as well as their participation in the on-going Shanghai World Expo.He said he is willing to see the Italian and Chinese companies having more exchanges and further expanded areas of cooperation.According to Invitalia, the Italian official agency for promoting overseas investment and enterprise development, investment from Chinese companies in Italy has surged since 2000 and mainly goes to three main sectors, namely the automotive industry, logistics and machinery.Bilateral trade volume between China and Italy in the first half of 2010 registered a 36.3 percent rise compared to that of the same period last year, reaching some 20 million U.S. dollars.

HANOI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Thursday met separately with the prime ministers of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in Hanoi ahead of a series of summits between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its partners.At the meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Wen hailed Vietnam's preparation for the upcoming meetings, saying that China would join with Vietnam to ensure the success of the meetings at a time of profound changes going on in the international situation.Wen called for proper handling of the issue of South China Sea, saying it is of vital importance to the sound and stable development of China-Vietnam relations.He noted that China and Vietnam have established a negotiation mechanism to solve the issue, and he hoped the two countries would discuss and sign an agreement on basic principles guiding the solution to the issues of the sea as early as possible.Dung agreed with Wen's remarks.Expressing the high importance China placed on the summits, Wen said China would strengthen communication and coordination with Vietnam and work with all sides concerned to push forward East Asian cooperation.Wen said friendship and cooperation have remained the mainstream of China-Vietnam relations since the establishment of the bilateral diplomatic ties 60 years ago. NANJING, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) - Three months after high school, 18-year-old Wang Mingyuan landed a part-time job in KTK Group, one of China's leading railway components manufacturers, in east China's Jiangsu Province.Unlike other migrant workers, Wang also started a three-year vocational school education at the same time, thanks to the work-study program launched this year by the Jiangsu provincial government.The program offers employment opportunities in high-technology and community-service fields to vocational school students. Currently, Wang works three days of each week in the company and spends another two days as a student, learning computer science and engineering."I felt very depressed about the future when I knew I failed the college entrance exam. But after attending the work-study program, I think if I work hard, I may fare as well as those with college educations," Wang said."Through the program, I could gain career-related, on-the-job work experience, which is valuable for my job hunting and career development," he continued.For a long time, college has been seen as a necessary, even if not sufficient, ticket to the middle class by the Chinese people.
