CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Chula Vista firefighters quickly put out a fire that started Sunday night near the Teresina Apartments on Santa Cora Avenue. Fire department officials say the call came in at about 9:20 p.m. when a person who lives at the apartments heard noises coming from outside their window. The person who reported the fire told firefighters they saw two kids setting the fire and recording themselves on their cell phones. The witness yelled at them and the kids ran away. The fire burned several trees and got dangerously close to the apartments, forcing the evacuation of one of the buildings. Witnesses tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the flames while fire crews arrived. A 16-year-old was transported to the hospital for inhaling some of that substance. Chula Vista Fire officials say the incident is possibly related to another fire that broke out on Santa Cora near the same apartments on October 25th. Police are still looking for the two kids responsible, no description was immediately available.  1096

(KGTV) - A woman was found unconscious and bloody outside a Chula Vista laundromat Friday night.Paramedics responded to reports of an unconscious woman at the Coin-Op laundromat near Broadway and F Street just after 9 p.m.The woman had apparently been beaten and left on the sidewalk on the side of the strip mall.Ivonne Campos, who works at a nearby Mexican restaurant said her bosses saw the woman as they were leaving for the night.Campos came over to help the woman, who she believes is homeless. She was taken to UCSD Medical Center.Chula Vista police are investigating but said they have little information on the victim or suspect. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Four people were displaced when a fire damaged their South Bay home Sunday morning, authorities said.Dispatchers were alerted at about 9:20 a.m. to a fire at a house near the intersection of Madden and Donax avenues, according to the San Diego Police Department. The area is just west of Beyer Boulevard.Firefighters found a small fire in the attic, and were able to get everyone out of the house and extinguish the flames, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department official said. The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known. The Red Cross was called to assist with finding shelter for the home's occupants, the Fire-Rescue official said. 662

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A growing turf war over a fee at the San Diego International Airport is threatening to delay the massive project to revitalize Chula Vista's bayfront about 15 miles south.The Port of San Diego is already clearing land to make way for a new resort and convention center. RIDA Development has already been selected to build both. The issue now is how to pay for the 1,600 space parking garage next door. The Port imposed a .50 cent fee on rental cars at the airport to help finance the million garage, which a spokeswoman says is authorized in The Port Act. RELATED: Chula Vista bayfront project: Soil transportation underway"This fee is a tried-and-true method for financing a parking facility that has worked great in San Diego already. The Authority joined a lawsuit by Hertz and Enterprise challenging the fees - leading to concerns of delays."It would have been nice before this fee was levied for someone to reach out to us," said April Boling, the Airport Authority's chair. CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Wis. – A black bear is thanking its lucky stars that a Wisconsin family was in the right place at the right time.After a day of fishing on Sunday, Tricia Hurt told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that she, her husband and their son were returning to a dock on Marsh-Miller Lake when they spotted something strange in the water.As the family approached, they realized it was a young bear that was struggling to swim because it had a cheese ball container stuck around its head.They felt compelled to help free the bear from the tub, worrying that if they didn’t, it wouldn’t be able to make it back to short safely.So, Tricia says her son Brady maneuvered their boat while her husband leaned into the water to tug on the container. It took multiple passes, but they eventually managed to free the animal from the plastic. Tricia says the bear then swam back to shore.The family believes that if they had not helped the bear, it may have not made it to shore, because it was breathing heavily and the container had filled with water.Tricia documented their rescue efforts on video and posted it online. As of Tuesday morning, her Facebook post has been shared more than 18,000 times.The family says the bear had actually been spotted several times over the past few days and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources had been looking for it, but without any luck. 1389
