The IRS announced this week it has extended the deadline for those who did not file a tax return the last two years to request a ,200 stimulus check. The deadline, which was previously slated for October 15, will now be on November 21.The economic stimulus checks, which millions of Americans received during the spring and early summer, is for most American adults earning less than ,000 a year. The IRS paid the checks out to those who either file an annual tax return or receive government benefits. American adults who are not considered a dependent, such as young adults living at home, and do not file a tax return are required to submit a form to the IRS. The form is available on the IRS’ website."We took this step to provide more time for those who have not yet received a payment to register to get their money, including those in low-income and underserved communities," said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. "The IRS is deeply involved in processing and programming that overlaps filing seasons. Any further extension beyond November would adversely impact our work on the 2020 and 2021 filing seasons. The Miami Police Department says what began as disagreement about masks led to an assault on Sunday evening.According to a statement from the Miami Police Department, the incident began at Latin Cafe, a ventanita or coffee shop near Miami International Airport. Surveillance video shows five people milling about outside of the cafe.The Miami Police Department says a few patrons got into an argument about mask compliance. Video shows one customer, wearing a mask and a red shirt, gesturing toward cafe employees and appearing to speak in exaggerated tones toward another customer without a mask.The customer without a mask stepped toward the man in the red shirt, and then a struggle ensued. Additional security footage shows the man in the red shirt falling to the ground. That man's girlfriend saw the incident from her car and ran to help. Police say she was also hit during the scuffle.Miami Police Officer Kiara Delva told WSVN-TV in Miami that the fight left the man in the red shirt "disoriented."Police say they're searching for four people in connection with the incident. It's unclear how many of those people could face charges.Miami currently requires the use of masks in public to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The Olmsted Locks and Dam project, located on the Ohio River between Illinois and Kentucky, has taken 30 years and billion to complete.  But after three decades, the project is slated to be operational in October.The engineers and workers behind the development say the investment is worth it."The Ohio flows into the Mississippi 16 miles downriver from us, and then it's open passage all the way down to New Orleans and into the ocean,” explains Mick Awbreyk, the Army Corps of Engineers deputy chief for the Olmsted Division. “There is no locks and dams from the Olmsted to the ocean."He says the innovative details that went into the project are “phenomenal and truly world class.”Awbreyk will see the opening of the project, which began in 1988.So, why has it taken so long to complete?“The nature of the project; a lot of different things have led to the duration,” explains Awbreyk of the timeline. “One: it hasn't been fully funded until calendar 2013, fiscal years 2014 and that’s the nature of civil works projects."The dam crosses one of the busiest shipping lanes in the United States. Awbreyk says about 91 million tons of goods on average come through the area per year.“The equivalent of 25,000 semi-trucks worth of cargo passes through this site every year,” says Awbreyk. “You can imagine the wear and tear on the interstates and the highways that would have an extra 25,000 vehicles that will be on there per day."The project's price tag has grown to around billion. Being benevolent, she said, goes a long way.Discounts help as well“I think it would really be important to look at, ‘Where in my business can I offer maybe a discount or extend the opportunity for people to buy something at a lower price point?’” Book said. “Because people are also price shopping, where in the past, people were really able to find money for the things that they really wanted.
