EL CAJON (CNS) - One person was shot and another stabbed at a house party in El Cajon late Saturday night, police say. Several 911 calls came in to police at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday reporting a fight at a party on Andover Road just east of South Second Street, El Cajon Police Lt. Eric Taylor said.Callers reported that multiple people had been kicked out and drove off in a silver car before turning around and firing shots at partygoers who were still outside, Taylor said. One person, a woman in her 20s, was shot in the abdomen.She was taken to a local hospital and was undergoing surgery in stable condition, Taylor said.No one else was hit by gunfire, but when police arrived at the home, they found a man in his 50s had also been stabbed in the buttocks, according to Taylor.The suspects had already left by the time officers arrived, and no one was in custody as of Sunday afternoon. 902

(KGTV) -- A rally was held Monday afternoon in El Cajon to not only celebrate the holiday season, but to also call on local leaders to fully reopen businesses and schools.The “All I Want for Christmas is Freedom” rally took place at the El Cajon Centennial Plaza, located on 200 Civic Center Way.The event was organized by the group Re-Open San Diego and was a “free and safe family event to save the spirit of Christmas, enjoy food, shopping, listening to the Mayor of El Cajon [Bill Wells] play live music, and to advocate for fully reopening San Diego businesses and schools.”State Sen. Brian Jones, Rep. Darrell Issa, and Peggy Hall with TheHealthyAmerican.org will be among those speaking at the rally. Many say they believed businesses can reopen safely."Let these people get back to work and be safe, take care of their employees, take care of their customers and open up in a safe manner," Jones said. Doctors are sounding the alarm on the rise in unvaccinated kids as we head into the winter months.Childhood vaccination rates have been fluctuating along with COVID cases.An immunology expert tells us he thinks parents are avoiding doctors' offices because of the pandemic.“They're just scared of gathering in groups and it makes sense, but pediatricians are doing their darndest to try and make sure that people are in as safe as a position as possible because it's important to get vaccinated. I mean it's not just COVID-19 that can kill you,” said Dr. Paul Offit, Professor of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.Right now, Offit says his two biggest concerns are measles and whooping cough. Both are winter diseases.Although the measles had previously been eliminated in the United States, cases have been rising in recent years because of a lack of vaccinations.Offit says at least before we had a measles vaccine, it was actually much more likely to be deadly than COVID-19.There are tens of thousands of cases of whooping cough in the U.S. every year and children are most likely to die from it.There are also other bacteria out there that are less common but can cause things like meningitis or pneumonia.“We put these diseases aside because we're assuming they're gone. They're not gone, and let your immunizations drop far enough and we'll see them again,” said Offit.Offit says wearing masks and social distancing have helped keep the spread of some of these diseases, other than COVID-19, under control too.But he's concerned that once people are able to get a COVID-19 vaccine, they will immediately stop practicing those measures. 1670
