NEW YORK, N.Y. -- A man was found decapitated and dismembered in his Lower East Side apartment Tuesday afternoon, according to the New York Police Department.The man's body was found shortly after 3:30 p.m. in the East Houston Street building, officials said.Police identified the victim as 33-year-old Fahim Saleh, a globe-trotting tech entrepreneur, according to his LinkedIn page.According to a police source, it was the victim's own sister who made the grisly discovery in his luxury apartment.Investigators told WPIX that Saleh's sister found an electric saw, still plugged into the outlet, and her brother's limbs placed in bags.Mitchel Glixon was walking his dog past 265 East Houston around 3 p.m. Wednesday when the woman burst out of the lobby, screaming and crying."She just says 'he has no head' and pointed to her arms and kind of making an arm motion as she went back to the lobby. People kind of surrounded her at that point," Glixon said.Officers said the victim was last seen on surveillance video entering the apartment Monday afternoon; 24 hours later, police dogs searched the surrounding area for clues.Police sources said the surveillance video shows Saleh and a well-dressed man all in black following him into the elevator that goes right to his apartment. It is believed this is when he was attacked.Neighbor Jason Gabriel tried to process the news. "It's a scary time right now. People have pent up anger. The latest surge in U.S. coronavirus cases appears to be much larger than the two previous ones, and it is all but certain to get worse. Deaths are climbing again, reaching an average of more than 930 a day. However, experts say medical and testing advances give them reason to believe the nation is better able to deal with the virus this time. On Monday, the number of coronavirus cases in the US passed 10 million since the start of the pandemic.Despite a rise in recorded cases, the University of Washington's IHME model projects up to 2,000 coronavirus-related deaths per day by the end of December. NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Orlando Ortega posted a Facebook video of his now-former co-worker, Eileen Marcinkowski, calling him the N-word Sunday. The video has more than 150,000 views.But the owner of the restaurant where the incident took place said the video doesn't tell the whole story. “The lady in the video he actually did hit. She had blood on her face, she was bleeding," said Jane Thursfield, owner of Cactus Jack. Thursfield said Ortega provoked the fight when he punched Marcinkowski in the face after he was let go by the restaurant. Scripps station WFTX in Fort Myers could see no evidence of blood on Marcinkowski's face in the Facebook video. The owner said even if Marcinkowski was provoked, the racial comments were not OK. “No, no, of course not," Thursfield said. "No, we don’t condone that at all.”Other customers, like Johnny Samz, who said he regularly eats at Cactus Jack, agreed. “I don’t think it’s ever good, for anybody to use the N-word," said Samz. "I don’t care what the circumstances are.” WFTX's Jasmine Minor asked since Ortego no longer worked at the restaurant, if Marcinkowski would face the same fate. “She is still working here, yeah," said Thursfield. "I have not been here long and she’s working, but we will obviously address that.” The owner said the incident took place "off-the-clock" and "off business property." NEW YORK (AP) — A judge has rejected a .5 million proposed bail package for Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend, saying her incarceration is necessary to ensure she faces trial on charges she recruited teenage girls for Epstein to sexually abuse. U.S. District Judge Alison J. Nathan rejected the proposed bail for Ghislaine Maxwell on Monday. According to The Associated Press, Maxwell and her husband, who has never been publically identified, offered their entire wealth - .5 million - plus millions more of friends and family's assets to secure her bail.But she did not immediately release an opinion explaining her reasoning. Maxwell was arrested in early July. She has remained at a federal lockup in Brooklyn ever since Nathan said there were no bail conditions that would ensure she would not flee. “For substantially the same reasons as the Court determined that detention was warranted in the initial bail hearing, the Court again concludes that no conditions of release can reasonably assure the Defendant’s appearance at future proceedings,” Nathan wrote Monday in the order.Nathan added that the government met its burden of persuasion that Maxwell poses as a flight risk.“In reaching that conclusion, the Court considers the nature and circumstances of the offenses charged, the weight of the evidence against the Defendant, the history and characteristics of the Defendant, and the nature and seriousness of the danger that the Defendant’s release would pose,” Nathan added.Epstein killed himself in August 2019 at a Manhattan federal jail as he awaited a sex trafficking trial. 1607
