If you simply thaw your turkey by leaving it on the counter at room temperature, you run the risk of its temperature being unsafe, leading to the risk of bacteria growth.The next tip is to follow the four steps of food safety: clean, separate, cook, and chill. The raw turkey can contaminate anything it touches. Be sure to wash your hands and surfaces often, do not cross contaminate with other foods, cook at the specified temperature, and refrigerate within two hours.If you plan on putting stuffing inside your turkey, the CDC says to use a food thermometer.
