Across the country, as coronavirus testing has increased, so have the long lines waiting to take a test. Some people are reporting having to wait nearly two weeks for results, in some cases.Arizona State University's Biodesign Institute says their new saliva test could be a real game-changer in getting a better handle on this pandemic.On July 10, ABC15 met Heidy Gonzales who was in line for free testing through the HeroZona Foundation at South Mountain Community College."There are some people who have been coming twice, three times," she explained.That was the story for another young woman we met, Mika, who says she had been to the same testing site the day before and was turned away. After extended family tested positive, she didn't want to take any chances. She says, she didn't have a choice but to come back. And it's not just long lines but also long wait times, with some people waiting as long as two weeks to get results. A Norwalk, Ohio man and Sunday school teacher is facing charges after having inappropriate sexual contact with a child in a church basement.Kenneth Rose is charged with gross sexual imposition of a child. He was the children's director at Milan Friends Church in Milan Township and had been volunteering there for six months.Rose is being held without bond while the Erie County Sheriff's Office investigates what exactly went on inside the church and if more than one child was involved.Two alleged incidents were reported by one child who was in his program. The girl said both incidents happened while her parents were in regular church service. One happened on Feb. 25, the other on March 18. "There was inappropriate sexual contact, so there was touching involved," Detective Sergeant Dennis Papineau with the Erie County Sheriff's Department said. He said the young girl went to her father and told him what her Sunday school teacher did to her."There was spanking involved," Detective Sergeant Papineau said. It happened in the church's basement, when no other kids were around."When this actually occurred, they were by themselves."Rose admitted guilt to investigators immediately. "He was cooperative with the investigation."Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland talked to the pastor of the church, Paul Campbell, on the phone. He didn't want to go on camera, but said the church is cooperating with investigators and trying to be as transparent as possible. Pastor Campbell said Rose never should have been with children alone, and they still aren't sure how this happened. Campbell said there were no other incidents reported to them. Rose is not listed as a sex offender and does not have a criminal history. Campbell said they're already talking about what they can do to make sure this never happens again. "This is an active investigation, and if there are any other victims we are asking them to come forward," Detective Sergeant Papineau said. 2084

Across the country, YMCA locations are back in business.That means members are working out inside gyms again, doing everything from running on treadmills to lifting heavy weights.Now, in an effort to create an even safer environment for its members, the Downtown Denver YMCA is taking its group exercise classes outside.“My first priority inside before COVID and now with COVID is to keep them safe,” group exercise instructor Lamar Sims said about member safety.After reopening, Sims is leading a strength and conditioning class on the steps of the Colorado State Capitol Building.This former district attorney turned group exercise instructor isn’t sure how COVID-19 will impact his class sizes. But he’s absolutely sure that safety is a priority for the millions of YMCA members.“We’re working on making sure people are doing good spacing,” he said. “So, we are not going to have any of the partner type exercises, partner spotting, partner stretching that we used to do.”Infectious disease specialists say this kind of spacing is paramount during the pandemic.“If you’re able to have that distancing there’s less spread,” said Sheryl Zajdowicz, Ph.D., a biology professor at Metropolitan State University of Denver.Zajdowicz believes exercising is much safer outside than inside but says there are still several concerns with intense training in a group setting.“When you’re working out, you’re breathing heavier and potentially coughing and there’s still some risk that could be associated there,” she said.That risk, however, is worth it to some members.“There’s nothing like it,” Paul Garland said about group exercise classes. “This is the one thing that I miss the most about the whole shelter in place.”Garland says this kind of workout impacts his mind and his body.“The better I feel physically, the better I feel emotionally,” he said.Moving forward, the YMCA will continue to do group exercise classes outside as long as COVID-19 is still a concern. 1971
