Have you noticed your favorite foods or products at the grocery store have gone up in price? It could be because a shortage of truck drivers is driving shipping prices up.Currently 50,000 truck drivers are needed to help ship your favorite everyday products across the country. Quincy Jones is the director at Sage Truck Driving School and says there are a few reasons why people aren’t becoming drivers.“Part of the reason is because the average truck driver is 55 years old and with the shortage of millennials coming in," Jones said. With drivers retiring and young people choosing four-year degrees, it's affecting deliveries. Companies like Coke, Hershey’s and General Mills have all said they have to pay more to get their items shipped to stores, which means wallets take a hit."I think ecommerce has a lot to do with it — just with the demand of everybody having to order stuff to have it delivered to their houses instead of actually going out and shopping for it,” Jones said.Being a truck driver can be a lucrative job right out of the gate, and it only takes four weeks of training. That’s one of the reason Sage student Miguel decided to sign up.“The money is really good, especially in this field — and I mean it’s just a lot to offer, benefits and money,” Miguel said. With a shortage of drivers, some companies are offering big signing bonuses for those considering driving. Solo drivers could receive a ,000 signing bonus, and team drivers could receive up to ,000.Jones believes more people would become drivers if they could afford the training.“With increased funding from the government helping with these new students through and getting them into the industry I think that’s a possible way,” he said.Even though Miguel is sacrificing a lot starting this career, he knows it’s beneficial to everyone.“It’s a full cycle. I get to provide for my family to provide for you guys. It’s a good turn around," Miguel said.  1984

HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (AP) — A commercial pilot from Oregon raised a giant pumpkin weighing 2,170 pounds (984 kilograms) to win a pumpkin-weighing contest in Northern California.Steve Daletas, of Pleasant Hill, Oregon, on Monday credited a good seed and lots of sunny days since he planted it April 15 hoping to win the 45th World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off in Half Moon Bay, California. It is the fourth time Daleta takes top honors at the annual pumpkin-weighing contest. He won ,190 for the lumpy pumpkin that will be showcased at Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival this weekend. He says he used a backhoe to place it on a pickup truck and drove it for 12 hours to California. The world record for largest pumpkin was set in a 2014 weigh-off in Germany by Swiss farmer Beni Meier who grew a 2,323-pound (1,053 kilograms) pumpkin. 850

Government watchdogs say President Trump’s Fourth of July gala in the nation’s capital last year cost taxpayers more than million, twice as much as previous celebrations. Each year, the nation's capital hosts Independence Day celebrations; a parade, concert, fireworks and, in 2019, "A Salute to America." Trump’s desire to have Department of Defense military vehicles participate last year helped drive up the cost, according to the Government Accountability Office. The president’s attendance also increased expenses. The report says that some other costs, such as for military flyovers of the National Mall, aren't included in the estimate. Trump’s military-focused Independence Day event went beyond the traditional concert and fireworks of years past. The GAO estimated that holiday celebrations from 2016 to 2018 cost from million to million annually. 875

Good people of America, the lottery jackpots need to be stopped. They are getting too powerful.Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing is worth 7 million (its largest ever), and Wednesday's Powerball jackpot stands at 5 million. The reason these jackpots have ballooned to such monstrous proportions is that, well, no one has won in a while. According to a release from Mega Millions, the last Mega Millions jackpot was won July 24, netting 11 co-workers a combined 3 million. The last Powerball jackpot, which totaled 5.6 million, was won August 11 by a man in Staten Island, New York.Believe it or not, this week's combined billion-dollar haul is not the biggest prize in the lottery's history. That honor goes to a 2016 Powerball jackpot, which clocked in at .586 billion (although it was shared by three winners).Of course, the actual amount you'll win is considerably less than a billion dollars, not just because of taxes and annuities and fine print things. The amount you will win is likely <云转化_句子>, because the odds of winning either jackpot are one in several hundred million.Sure sure, someone needs to win eventually, we know. But it's not going to be you.**OK, almost certainly not. But cheer up! There are often secondary prizes to these huge drawings that can be worth millions of dollars, and a shocking amount of them go unclaimed -- probably because people get too focused on the biggest possible way to win. 1435
