Karen Bloch said. Two days later, the family reported that reviews of surveillance camera footage had revealed that the home of the victim, whose name has not been released, had been burglarized.The video clips showed a man -- later identified by investigators as Gates, owner of independently operated Mortuary Transportation Services -- arriving at the man's house in a white utility van, the sergeant said.Gates allegedly entered the home and exited shortly thereafter with two bags filled with stolen property, then returned with a gurney and an empty body bag that he used to haul away more property.On Sept. 9, detectives from the Rancho San Diego Sheriff's Station served a search warrant at Gates' El Cajon-area home, where the deceased man's safe and gun allegedly were recovered, along with 16 additional firearms, many believed to be war relics dating back to the early 1900s."Two additional safes, multiple personal identifying documents, jewelry, watches, war medals, comic books and several thousand dollars in collectable coins were also recovered from Gates' residence," the sergeant alleged. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public today for help in identifying two thieves who robbed a 19-year-old woman at Fashion Valley mall two weeks ago.The pair, a man and woman who appeared to be in their 20s or early 30s, grabbed the victim from behind as she was walking through a parking structure at the Friars Road shopping center shortly before 2 p.m. Aug. 10, according to San Diego police.As the man pressed a sharp object -- believed to have been a knife -- to the victim's back, his cohort demanded her cellphone and other property, then tried to pull a lanyard from around her neck.The victim slapped the other woman's hand away, preventing her from stealing the strap, but the man was able to yank a pair of Apple AirPods from the victim's ears. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A motorcyclist died Sunday in a head-on collision with a truck in the San Pasqual neighborhood, police said.The accident happened at 1:41 p.m. when a 65-year-old man riding a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling east in the 18000 block of San Pasqual Valley Road crossed over the double yellow line and hit a 1997 Ford 250 driven by an 88-year-old man traveling west, according to Officer John Buttle of the San Diego Police Department.The motorcyclist died and the driver of the Ford and his passenger were taken to the hospital.Traffic Division is investigating the collision. 609

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A United Airlines flight scheduled to take off from San Diego International Airport was diverted from the runway just before departure Friday due to an undisclosed mechanical issue with one of the plane's engines.Flight 478 was scheduled to take off for Denver shortly before noon, but was recalled while on the airport's taxiway. The plane was safely escorted back to the airport's terminal and the issue occurred at low speed, according to United.``The aircraft safely returned to the gate and customers deplaned normally,'' a United spokesperson said in a statement. ``We are making arrangements to get our customers to their final destination as soon as possible.''Roughly 120 passengers were aboard the flight.
