SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- People living along the coast in north county say they can't remember the last time mosquitoes were so bad.Sharon Mauro lives near the San Elijo Lagoon in Solana Beach."Oh, we couldn't leave the house without them attacking us," said Mauro.She hired Tony Gallardo of Mosquito Joe to spray her property."The last few weeks have been very busy. Basically, from the coastline all the way to Poway, the mosquito problem is pretty significant right now," said Gallardo.Gallardo says he sprays roughly 15 homes a day."This is kind of a perfect storm in everybody is stuck at home now, they want to be outside. The kids are getting tired of being inside. You get outside the mosquitos are eating everybody up, they're breeding cause they have more food, strange way to put it," said Gallardo.San Diego County Vector Control crews sprayed the lagoon last week. They also discovered a new trouble spot."A new spot showed up, and we didn't find until it was a wee bit too late. We do have it treated now, so it's going to be a one-time event," said Chris Conlan, the county's supervising vector ecologist.Conlan said the recent high tides contributed to the increase in mosquitoes."Whenever we get a very high tide event, especially something like a King Tide, as the water recedes from those high tide events sometimes leaves standing pools, and this mosquito is very good at taking advantage of that," said Conlan.Conlan said the Black Salt Marsh Mosquito doesn't transmit disease, but it's an aggressive "day biter," and can travel up to five miles.Residents worried about mosquitos near their property should contact the county's vector control program. 1675

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 32 years after a double murder in Ramona, the suspected shooter has been arrested.San Diego Sheriff's Department says the deadly shooting occurred just before midnight on June 7, 1987, at a Ramona apartment on B Street, just behind Main St. Witnesses told deputies a family was having a birthday party for their four-year-old daughter when one of the guests, 27-year-old Jose Angel Solorio, got into an argument with several people.Solorio left the party angry but returned to the apartment with a gun and shot three men, identified as German Aviles, Ventura Aviles, and Carlos Holgin. German and Ventura Aviles did not survive the shooting.RELATED: 35-year-old cold case murder linked to San Diego manAfter the shooting, deputies learned that Solorio had fled to Mexico.It wasn't until April 2002 when Solorio appeared back on the radar for authorities. Homicide detectives located a family member in Texas who said she had contact with Solorio about two years prior and he was still in Mexico.FBI and U.S. Marshals Service continued working the case and in March 2019, Solorio was finally located and detained in Mexico.Friday, Solorio was extradited to San Diego and jailed on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - One person was killed in a chain-reaction crash on Interstate 805 in the South Bay that forced lane closures and led to a heavy traffic backup during the Wednesday morning commute.Shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, the California Highway Patrol reported a crash involving a Nissan pickup truck colliding with a Caltrans truck that was working along the side of northbound I-805 near Bonita Road.CHP officials determined that a Toyota Yaris struck the pickup, causing it to slam into the back of the Caltrans truck, which was hauling asphalt.CHECK TRAFFIC CONDITIONS10News learned the Nissan's driver died at the hospital after sustaining injuries from the wreck.Yaris' driver, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.No other injuries were reported, and CHP officials said the crash is under investigation.The crash and clean-up led to the closure of at least two lanes on northbound I-805 at Bonita Road. The onramp from Bonita Road to northbound I-805 was also shut down.The closures caused a traffic jam that extended south past Palomar Street in Chula Vista.To alleviate some of the gridlock, the CHP opened the HOV lanes to all vehicles. 1207

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police have arrested a man they say peeped into the homes of at least six women in Pacific Beach over the last two months.James Wayne Hubbard, 48, was arrested Friday and charged with six instances of peeping and one count of petty theft, according to San Diego Police.Police say between Sept. 11 and Oct. 12, Hubbard repeatedly peeped into windows of unsuspecting women in the Pacific Beach area at least six times.MAP: Track crimes happening in your areaPolice added the suspect description was consistent between the six events.Through witness interviews, evidence, and the help of patrol officers Hubbard was identified and arrested.Anyone with further information about the cases is asked to call SDPD Northern Division at 858-552-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 817

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than 2,200 SDG&E customers were without power Saturday in the North Park area.About 2,216 customers in the University Heights, North Park, Normal Heights, Kensington, and Talmadge areas were left in the dark at about 8 a.m.SDG&E said a malfunction of underground equipment in the area caused the outage, but crews were out repairing the issue.As of 9:34 a.m., a spokesperson said power should be restored to all customers within the next hour. 488
