Three of America's largest grocery chains, Kroger, Walmart and Wegmans, have joined ALDI and Target in issuing a recall for peaches in connection with a nationwide Salmonella outbreak.On Saturday, Prima Wawona expanded a recall of peaches shipped by the company to include those bagged and loose peaches that had been sold across the country.The new recall includes Kroger stores and its affiliates — including Jay-C, King Soopers, City Market. Fry's, Ralphs, Food 4 Less, Foods Co. and Smiths — as well as peaches sold at Walmart and Wegmans.The possibly contaminated fruit was sold between June 1 and Aug. 3Consumers should not eat the peaches. Instead, the CDC says to throw them away, even if some of them were eaten and no one has gotten sick.Once the peaches have been discarded, health officials suggest washing and sanitizing the places where the produce was stored, like countertops, refrigerator drawers and shelves. The CDC also urged restaurants, retailers, suppliers and distributors not to sell or ship the recalled peaches.The FDA also advises that anyone who doesn't remember when they purchased Prima Wawona peaches or those that aren't sure who supplied their peaches should throw away peaches in their fridge out of an abundance of caution.As of August 19, 2020, CDC is reporting a total of 68 Salmonella cases across nine states.The CDC is investigating to find the source of contamination and to identify other retailers that may have sold tainted peaches.Symptoms of Salmonella infection include:Most people infected with Salmonella develop diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps six hours to six days after being exposed to the bacteria.The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.In some people, the illness may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin asked the White House about the possibility of using a government jet for his European honeymoon this summer but later withdrew the request.A Treasury Department spokesperson told CNN in a statement that Mnuchin made the request to ensure he had access to secure lines of communication when he and his new wife, Louise Linton, were traveling."Treasury withdrew its request after a secure communications option was identified during the Secretary's extended travel," the spokesperson said Wednesday.Treasury said it has a practice of considering a "wide range of options" to ensure Mnuchin has access to secure communications, including the possible use of military aircraft.The Treasury spokesperson said it was "imperative" that Mnuchin, who is a member of the National Security Council and directly involved with national security issues tied to North Korea, Iran, and Venezuela, could communicate securely.ABC News was the first media outlet to report the Secretary's request.When asked if there was a review of the request, an official with the Treasury Department's Inspector General, which investigates allegations of wrongdoing within the agency, told CNN Wednesday "We are looking at all requests and uses of government aircraft."A White House spokesperson declined to comment and directed questions to Treasury.This is not the first time a trip by the former Goldman Sachs banker has raised eyebrows.Another trip by Mnuchin and his wife to Kentucky last month is already under review by the Treasury Department's Inspector General.Jaws dropped in August when Linton posted a picture of herself on Instagram stepping out of a U.S. government plane. There's a new program aimed at helping Black and Latinx students succeed.The Equity in Education Initiative was built through a partnership between Walmart and North Carolina A&T State University.The program acknowledges many of these students start at a disadvantage, because they go through under-funded school districts.“These students are coming in sometimes with academic gaps that are due to no fault of their own. It's not a difference in ability, it's just a difference in their zip code,” said Kevin James, Dean of the Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T.The program is broken up into four focus areas, addressing specific needs of different students. They include financial resources and mentorship while in school, and then network building to create career opportunities their white counterparts may already have.“So many people actually obtain their jobs through networks, because they know someone who knows someone, and many of these students, most of them come in without those built in networks and their families don't have those networks,” said James.The hope is that the positive effects of the program will extend outside of school, allowing successful students to invest and give back.“It's not just about the impact on the student. It's about multi-generational impact on families and about extending those impacts into communities that often times have been under resourced,” said James.Some parts of the program, like the Black Male Initiative, will make resources automatically available to students.There will be an application process for the Leadership Cohort and scholarships.The program starts early next year. 1683

This week marks Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, and according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 3.6 million Americans face a risk of lead poisoning from lead-based house paint.The CDC says that even low levels of lead in the bloodstream can cause cognitive impairment in children that is irreversible.“As we observe National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, we urge people to take action,” said Patrick Breysse, PhD, CIH, Director of CDC’s National Center for Environmental Health. “Together, we can eliminate childhood lead poisoning as a public health problem by strengthening blood lead testing, reporting, and surveillance, while linking exposed children to recommended services. CDC is committed to help address this threat and improve health outcomes for our nation’s most vulnerable citizens – our children.”The CDC is encouraging parents to get their children’s lead levels checked by a doctor. TIJUANA, Mexico. (KGTV) -- Conditions were bleak outside the Benito Juarez sports complex, where migrants waited out the rain. Tents stretches as far as the eye can see as migrants hid beneath tarps in a makeshift camp while waiting for the rain to pass. Mud puddles still surround the camp as those inside wait for another band of rain to sweep through Tijuana later Thursday evening. Outdoor showers were set up in the camp. When asked whether or not the journey was worth it, many of the migrants told 10News conditions at the camp are better than conditions in their home countries. Many with the camp say they’re also concerned as more and more migrants come down with colds. Face masks were passed out throughout the week to try to protect those who haven’t caught a cold.
