SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new scam appears to target local Amazon customers worried about being victims of package theft.Neighbors at the Escala community in Mission Valley say package thefts have been an ongoing problem for the last few years.Could the trend be providing fuel for a scam? A recent encounter at the housing complex could point to a new method by scammers.Adriana Alberdi, who has lived at the complex for a decade, said she and other residents received an email from the property management company describing a recent visitor.According to the email, the man — described as blond and in his early 20s — was wearing a lanyard connected to a tablet. He had business cards and claimed to work at Amazon. At one point, the man went to the on-site office pushing to install an Amazon Key device in homes. The new service allows Amazon to gain access to a home or car to deliver packages and keep them from getting stolen.The email says the man was "pushy" and "argumentative," before finally leaving. Amazon confirmed the man was not an employee."It's like you're getting robbed of your security. You don't know who to trust anymore," said Alberdi. "This is new. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man with San Diego ties who worked for the U.S. government is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting multiple women, according to federal court documents.An FBI spokesperson confirmed Brian Jeffrey Raymond was arrested in La Mesa earlier this month.The arrest was first reported by The Daily Beast.Team 10 learned his arrest on October 9th took place in the parking lot of a La Mesa gym. Currently, he faces one charge related to sexual assault, but prosecutors said he is under investigation for crimes against 21 other women.Raymond, who most recently worked for the U.S embassy in Mexico City, had worked for the government for 23 years."For years, he has exerted power and control over unconscious women, undressing them, sexually assaulting them, photographing them, and recording them without their knowledge or consent," prosecutors wrote in court documents. They called him an "experienced sexual predator."He is currently at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown. In a hearing this week, he was ordered to be transferred to Washington D.C. The investigation showed in May 2020, police in Mexico City responded to Raymond's apartment to reports of a "naked, hysterical woman desperately screaming for help." The woman said she met Raymond on Tinder. Their date eventually led to his apartment, where they ate snacks and drank "from a wine glass [Raymond] provided in his residence," documents showed. The victim said she suddenly blacked out. A sexual assault examination showed several injuries.On Raymond's devices and iCloud, investigators said they found approximately 400 photos and videos, some dating back to 2011. They showed at least "21 different unconscious women." Some of the women were fully nude.Law enforcement said they found his internet searches included "passed out black girl," "deep sleep," and "Ambien and alcohol side effects."The alleged assaults took place from Mexico City to Virginia, according to prosecutors. Raymond's parents live in La Mesa. Documents showed he moved back to their home in June after he resigned from his job. In an interview with federal agents, his parents said "they feel like they do not know their son" and were surprised when he came to visit. Prosecutors said his behavior was escalating, even after his arrest. A week before he was arrested in La Mesa, they said Raymond met another women who could only remember small fragments of their sexual encounter.Raymond's attorney did not return Team 10's request for comment. 2531

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized Saturday night after being stabbed several times during a confrontation in Mission Beach, police said.The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of West Mission Bay, said Ofc. Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.Heims said a 26-year-old man approached and exchanged words with a 50-year-old man. The younger man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times."The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled the scene," Heims said. "The victim was transported to the hospital where his injuries were determined (to be) non-life threatening."The suspect was caught a short time later and arrested. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local retiree has a warning for Americans headed across the border after says he was shaken down for money during a recent trip to Tijuana, possibly due to COVID-19 restrictions.A few weeks ago, on a Sunday afternoon, Tom and his wife, a Mexican native, decided to visit one of her relatives. It's a trip they've made countless times. They drove across the border into Tijuana in their modified truck, bearing California license plates. Almost immediately, he noticed they had company."Saw a small car with municipal officers get behind me and pulled me over," said Tom, who asked us not to use his real name.He says one of two uniformed officers asked him to get out of the truck and walk over the police car, where the officer checked his driver's license."He explained he was pulling me over for tinted windows," said Tom.Tom says he was asked if he was smuggling drugs. Tom said he wasn't."Then he said, 'Here's the real reason I'm pulling you over. The United States closed the border. People are starving, and I want your money. Don't freak out. Don't say anything, or we'll impound your truck and take you to the courts' ... That was scary. I felt helpless," said Tom.Tom says he handed over the in bills he had in his wallet. He says his wife gave the other officer her ."He gave her back and said, 'I don't want to leave you with nothing,'" said Tom.That officer also left her with more details."My wife said he explained to her that they are just mad at the United States, and they're just going to pull over Americans and take whatever money they have because the people in Tijuana are hurting really bad because the border is closed," said Tom.A ban on non-essential border travel by both governments has been in place since March to limit coronavirus infections. Though cross-border traffic still remains busy, the restrictions have taken an economic toll on both sides of the border."I don't understand why they're blaming Americans. We're struggling too," said Tom.Tom says his police encounter ended when the officers let him go, warning him to stay out of Tijuana to avoid a repeat experience. He plans to take that advice."Myself, I'm not going back down there. It just invites trouble. You don't know who you can trust down there. Americans should be cautious," said Tom.Tom says he didn't report it to Mexican authorities because he feared retaliation. He tells ABC 10News a week after his incident, his brother-in-law experienced a similar shakedown while walking in the same area.ABC 10News reached out to the Mexican consulate in San Diego to find out if there have been any similar reported incidents and are waiting to hear back.In a statement, a spokesperson with the Tijuana government said a formal investigation would be launched "to investigate ... this reprehensible case and to apply the corresponding sanctions ...
