"You had a hospital that at times had no air conditioning on days where it was 100 degrees...required a lot of maintenance, held together with bubble gum and baling wire, basically.""It was like a rundown hotel with open windows and animals running around," said patient Glenn Higgins, who spent two years in the old facility. "The nurses were scared to go to certain areas because they said there were ghosts from a lot of people dying."Costs of renovation or replacement were so steep, the County Board of Supervisors almost decided to close Edgemoor and not replace it. However, after being on the verge of making that decision, the Board instead relented and approved the 9 million to build the current facility in Santee.Higgins says that while Edgemoor always had a great staff, the new building has made a big difference in the quality of care. (KGTV) -- Four juveniles were taken into custody early Wednesday morning after police said they sprayed a 7-Eleven clerk with a fire extinguisher and then proceeded to steal several items from the store.San Diego police said the incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. at a store on Cottonwood Road, near San Ysidro Boulevard, in San Ysidro.According to police, four juveniles entered the store and sprayed the clerk with a fire extinguisher before grabbing items such as alcohol and food.Officers responding to the incident spotted the group and pursued them on foot. The juveniles were eventually caught and taken into custody.Officers recovered the fire extinguisher and some of the items that were taken down the street from the store. 764

SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A speeding Orange County driver attempting the enter the country was killed after his car struck a man and woman and crashed into a metal barrier at the San Ysidro Port of Entry today.The crash occurred about 2:14 p.m. in a lane that was closed to traffic, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Salvador Castro.A gray Hyundai sedan driven by a 27-year-old man from Santa Ana was attempting to cross into the United States, Castro said. The Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a metal swing arm barricade.It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. The driver's name was not released.Tijuana police said the driver's vehicle struck a 70-year-old man and a 49-year-old wheelchair-bound woman on the Mexican side of the border. (KGTV) - A heartbroken San Marcos family is grieving the loss of a beloved great-grandmother to COVID-19.Gregoria Osorio, 78, started feeling sick in late July with a fever, and back and chest pain. She tested positive for COVID-19, and about two weeks later, an ambulance rushed her to the hospital."Her oxygen was really low, in the 70s, and I couldn't get the oxygen up," said her granddaughter Nubia Cruz.Cruz says her grandmother was given oxygen and placed on a ventilator five days later."My heart was broken, just kept praying and praying," said Cruz.Last Thursday, Osorio, a great-grandmother of 10, passed away."We miss her a lot. We just love her so much," said a tearful Cruz.Her legacy is a lasting one. For decades, she served as her town's midwife outside Oaxaca, Mexico."She delivered more than a thousand babies," said Cruz.She moved to San Marcos nearly two decades ago to be with family. Her cooking, especially her mole and tamales, was always filled with love."I want this to be a nightmare, and I wake up and see her next to me or in kitchen," said Cruz.Cruz says her grandmother was healthy and had no pre-existing conditions. The family stuck close to home, wore masks and took every precaution. Cruz tested positive and was asymptomatic."Don't think this doesn't exist because it's here," said Cruz.As businesses begin reopening again, she worries about what's next."Please take all the measures you can.
