(KGTV) -- A suspect was arrested following a robbery at a La Mesa credit union Wednesday morning.According to police, the robbery happened at the Navy Federal Credit Union on the 8700 block of Grossmont Boulevard just after 10 a.m. Wednesday.Police say the suspect brandished a knife and demanded cash after walking into the credit union.After fleeing from the business, the suspect was found driving away from the area by officers responding to the incident.The suspect, Rafeek Karamat, 35, was positively identified using surveillance video from the credit union. LANCASTER, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man whose body was found in a stone pillar in Lancaster Saturday could be the remains of a man who ran from police earlier in the week, according to KTLA. The body was found inside a stone pillar outside the WinCo Foods grocery store on the 700 block of West Avenue K around 2:40 p.m. Saturday.Earlier that morning, a manager at the store reported a foul smell coming from the pillar. The manager called a plumber thinking there was a sewage problem.When the plumber arrived and began knocking away the pillar’s stone, a leg and tennis shoes were visible. After arriving on scene, police were able to link the body to an incident earlier in the week.On Monday, a man was pulled over after being suspected of driving a stolen vehicle, police told KTLA. The man ran from police onto the rooftop of the grocery store which, according to authorities, has access to the inside of the pillars.Police say it’s possible that the man fell or climbed into one of the pillars to escape from authorities. With a recent heat wave and the density of the pillars, police say it’s possible the man became trapped and unable to breathe. 1167

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Protesters gathered at the La Mesa Police Department Tuesday evening, once again calling for more transparency and accountability from the department. The protest came just a few days after the department announced that former LMPD officer Matt Dages was no longer employed with the department. Dages was the officer caught on video during the arrest of Amaurie Johnson in May. The charges against Johnson were later dropped. Activists say the department's statement about Dages' employment was vague. They want the former officer charged and arrested.In a press conference hours before the protest, Johnson said he wants equality and will keep fighting for change until it happens. The protest remained peaceful; officers did detain a counter-protester but later told ABC 10News he was released after determining no crime had been committed. 877

(KGTV) -- A car being pursued by sheriff’s deputies crashed into the backyard swimming pool at a Lemon Grove home early Wednesday morning.San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were called to Mt. Vernon Street in response to a report of vehicles racing each other on the street.When deputies arrived, the cars fled, prompting deputies to pursue them.The pursuit was called off after deputies lost track of the vehicles. However, minutes later, a homeowner contacted authorities to report a car had landed in her swimming pool.The home is located directly below Mt. Vernon Street, and it is believed the car had gone over the side and tumbled into the pool.10News learned a man and woman escaped from the submerged car and fled the scene.No injuries were reported. 788

LEIMERT PARK (CNS) - A 5-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when he apparently found a gun that went off in his hands inside a Leimert Park home. Los Angeles police responded at 1:15 p.m. to reports of a shooting in the home in the 2000 block of Van Ness Avenue, and the child was found inside. ``Initially it appears to be a self-inflicted'' gunshot, an LAPD official told City News Service.
