Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Wednesday slammed President Donald Trump for his administration's plan to reopen schools amid the pandemic, saying that Trump is offering "nothing but failure and delusions."Biden said he stands by a school reopening plan his campaign released earlier this summer that called for emergency funding for local school districts so they could hire more teachers, psychologists, and other social workers. The former Vice President criticized Trump's inability to pass more school funding legislation through Congress."Mr. President, where are you? Where are you?" Biden said. "Why aren't you working on this? We need emergency support funding for our schools and we need it now.""Get off Twitter and start talking to the Congressional leaders in both parties. Invite them to the Oval Office," Biden added. "You always talk about your ability to negotiate. Negotiate a deal."Trump has been adamant that schools across the country reopen for in-person classes his fall, and he's threatened to withhold federal funding to schools who choose to conduct classes virtually.Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the Trump administration, has recommended that only schools in areas where the virus is not rapidly spreading should open for in-personclasses.Daily confirmed cases of COVID-19 are falling in the U.S. as schools begin to open their doors. However, Johns Hopkins reports that the U.S. continues to be one of the world leaders in daily confirmed cases of the virus.Wednesday's address is the second public speech Biden has given this week. On Monday, Biden traveled to Pittsburgh to deliver a speech in which he denounced violent protests by both left- and right-wing extremists and blamed Trump for months of civil unrest across the country. 1810

David Bossie, a Trump campaign adviser that is leading the President's legal challenge the outcome of the 2020 election, has contracted COVID-19, according to CNN, USA Today and Bloomberg.Bossie reportedly tested positive for the virus on Sunday, and reports of his diagnosis surfaced in the media on Monday — the same day that reports surfaced that Housing and Urban Development Director Ben Carson had also tested positive for the virus.Bossie reportedly has been traveling between Arizona and Trump campaign headquarters in Virginia, and is often seen without a mask.Bossie is among the legal experts who have been challenging the election outcomes in several states that Trump lost, and in states where the outcome is too close to call. While the Trump campaign has filed several lawsuits, there is still no evidence that widespread voter fraud changed the outcome of the election.Several top officials in the Trump administration — including President Donald Trump himself — have contracted COVID-19 in recent weeks. Other top officials who have contracted the virus include White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, adviser Hope Hicks, adviser Stephen Miller and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany. 1221

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Del Mar man is recovering at a La Jolla hospital after he was run over in an alley as he walked home from a bar. Ben Nelson's father, Bruce, said he got a call from investigators telling him his son had been hit and apparently dragged several feet. The driver took off without calling for help. Nelson was found at least an hour after the crash happened. Nelson suffered a broken pelvis, fibula, tibia and femur. Fortunately, he did not suffer any brain or spine injuries. There are surveillance cameras that point towards the alley, but Nelson's friends and families are hopeful whoever hurt their loved one is caught or turns themselves in. Friends have set up a fund raising page to help the family with medical expenses. If you'd like to help, click here. 796

DENVER – If your weekend plans don’t involve stargazing, you might consider changing that. This weekend, the annual Lyrid meteor shower will hit its peak. The meteor shower is active between the dates of April 14 and April 30, according to NASA, but peak viewing will occur on Sunday, April 22 with as many as 18 meteors per hour. The Lyrid meteor shower gets its name from the constellation Lyra, which is where the meteors often appear to radiate from. However, you should be able to see shooting stars throughout the night sky.The early-morning pre-dawn hours after the moon sets are typically the best time to watch for meteors, as that’s when the sky is usually at its darkest. 687

DENVER — An Uber driver kicked a passenger out of their vehicle after a passenger who claimed to have COVID-19 took off her mask, started coughing and refused to put it back on.The Uber driver, who asked to remain anonymous, says he picked up the passenger just before 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Denver. He said the passenger got in the car with a mask on, but she started coughing and took it off once she was inside."You know in this day and age, you should probably have a mask, especially since it's the law and you're sick," the driver told the passenger, according to dash camera video. The woman told the driver that she's not sick. But later, the driver asked if she had COVID-19."Yep, sure do," the passenger said."You said you did?" the driver responded. "Is that the truth? Please, it's my life."The woman ignored the driver and said he needed to take her to her destination. The driver then lost his temper and kicked the woman out of his car."I was angry that someone would be so callous and cavalier with my life," the driver said. "At the end of the ride, when she got out, she said, you've got COVID-19."He filed a complaint with Uber and received an email stating that they would reach out to the rider and take appropriate action. But the driver said someone else ordered the ride for the woman."In this instance, I don't know that Uber could have done anything differently," he said. "She had a mask on when she got in. She was doing everything that she was supposed to."Uber policy requires drivers and passengers to wear a mask and adds that drivers can cancel trips if they don't feel comfortable. In response to a request for comment, Uber laid out the policy and procedures it has implemented in the hopes of keeping people safe, which includes denying passengers access to Uber if they repeatedly violate the mask policy."Her lack of caring for another person is costing me my livelihood as well as potentially getting sick and possibly worse," the driver said.He says he began driving for Uber more than a year ago and has picked up and dropped off hundreds of passengers. He added that Tuesday's incident was the first time he'd had issues with a passenger refusing to wear a mask. The 13-minute ride just under eight miles cost .28, but the driver says it will cost him much more."I am not going to give any more rides until I've let an appropriate time pass by and I've been tested," he said. This story was originally published by Adi Guajardo on KMGH in Denver. 2492
