ISLAMABAD, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday wished China and the Chinese people a lucky traditional new year, hoping the bilateral relations between Pakistan and China will be further strengthened.In an interview with Xinhua, the prime minister said the friendship between the two countries is time-tested and long- standing, and the cooperations are multi-dimensional."Our friendship is now entering into many years and I wish this new year will add more strength to our relation," Gilani said.The prime minister said Pakistan and China have been cooperating in economy, defense, agriculture, culture, education and many other fields, including infrastructure and energy sector as well.He said Pakistan wants to have more exchange of culture, youth, parliamentary delegation, and more people-to-people contact between the two countries."The governments may come and go, but the love and affection between the two countries will remain forever," said the prime minister.Referring to China's role in international summits, Gilani said China plays an extremely important role in the world economy. BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhua) - A senior Chinese lawmaker said on Wednesday that legislation requiring public officials to declare their personal assets is under consideration and seen as a move to prevent corruption and improve government transparency."We are researching the issue, since the legislation requires mature consideration of all conditions," said Li Fei, deputy director of the Legislative Affairs Committee of the National People' s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.Li noted that the legislation should be assisted by the establishment of the personal credit system, which details individuals' financial information even if assets are not declared.Premier Wen Jiabao said on March 5 that high priority should be given to fighting corruption and encouraging integrity among public officials.Leading cadres at all levels, especially high-ranking ones, must resolutely implement the central leadership's regulations on reporting their personal financial situations and property, including incomes, housing and investments, as well as the jobs held by their spouses and children, Wen said.

SHANGHAI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai General Motors (SGM) is contacting the owners of 2,065 Captive jeeps to recall the vehicles for repair due to risk of steering malfunction, the company said on Friday.The defected vehicles were manufactured by GM Daewoo Auto in the Republic of Korea between Sept. 18, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2008, said a spokesman with SGM.China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) released a bulletin on Friday, approving SGM's application for the recall.SGM had received no customer reports on the defect, the spokesman said.GAQSIQ has stopped the importation of GM Daewoo Auto's Captive jeeps, according to the bulletin.

URUMQI, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Twenty-two women and children in China's far-western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region were rescued on Sunday, one week after they were trapped by avalanches, the region's disaster response authorities said.Bad weather hindered rescue efforts Saturday, but on Sunday two military helicopters managed to take off and reach a coal mining area in Nilka County, Kazak Autonomous Prefecture of Ili, where 135 people were trapped.The helicopters brought the women and children to safe areas, while the rest were left with enough food, vegetables and medicines. They will wait until the road is reopened.Rescuers also airdropped food and medicine for 29 people trapped in an iron mining area in Nilka County.
