LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) - A local city councilman is making a desperate plea for tips tonight after his wife was attacked outside their home. It happened just off Palm Street after 5:30 a.m. Saturday. A disturbing picture of the incident was painted in a Facebook post by Lemon Grove City Councilman David Arambula. He writes that his wife was "brutally attacked' while going to the trash can. He adds that the attacker, "opened our gate, then hit her over the hit her over the head with a block of wood. This was completely unprovoked and unexpected."One neighbor described her as traumatized, conscious and suffering a head wound. Deputies say the 38-year-old woman escaped into her home, while the man ran off. The motive remains a big mystery. Neighbors say they've had issues with people wandering the area, high on something."There is a sober living facility a few blocks away. We've had a few incidents of people in their own zone, yelling and screaming - but nothing violent," said neighbor Tim Bossard.Arambula posted on Facebook that his wife is "getting better."The attacker is described as a black man about 30 years old, 5'9", and 175 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt, dark denim shorts, high socks, white shoes, sunglasses and a blue hat. (CNN) -- An American woman has been charged with human trafficking after allegedly trying to smuggle a six-day-old baby out of the Philippines.At a press conference by the Philippines National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Thursday, International Airport Investigation Division chief Manuel Dimaano said the 43-year-old U.S. woman had used a sling bag to allegedly hide the baby while passing through immigration, and did not provide any documentation for the child.Dimaano said that after immigration, the woman allegedly removed the baby from the bag and was carrying it when she tried to board her Delta Airlines flight at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport.Philippines authorities were contacted when the woman couldn't provide documentation for the child when asked by Delta Airlines crew at the boarding gate."She has been charged with a violation of the Anti-trafficking in Persons Act of 2003," NBI spokesperson Auralyn Pascual said."The child's situation must have been very difficult during the time that he was put inside that bag."Dimaano said the mother had been contacted by authorities and would be charged. Police have not been able to find the child's father, he added.The Philippines Bureau of Immigration first announced on Wednesday that it had detained the woman. CNN Philippines reported that when discovered, she claimed to be the child's aunt.The NBI said the woman allegedly carried the baby from Davao to Manila, before attempting to fly out of the country. With dwindling resources and a lack of medical supplies, health care providers around the country are concerned about handling the surge in COVID-19 patients.But behind the scenes, nonprofits like Direct Relief are working around the clock to help doctors and nurses on the frontlines of the pandemic.Headquartered in Santa Barbara, California, the nonprofit responds to disasters every day of the year.But longtime employees like Andrew MacCalla sensed early on that this one was unlike the rest.“Back in January, when we got asked to send personal protective gear, like masks and gowns to China – where it’s mostly all made – we started questioning, this is something different," she said.MacCalla is vice president of Emergency Response at Direct Relief. He says the requests were strange because China doesn’t usually ask them for help.“But pretty quickly we realized that they were truly stocked out, this was something that was growing rapidly,” said MacCalla. The nonprofit has one of the largest N-95 stockpiles in the country, but their supply is quickly being depleted as they ship out thousands a day.Two weeks ago, they had about 500,000 masks left, and now they’re down to around 250,000.But as the situation improves in China, they’re hopeful orders placed on hold will begin to go out in a few weeks.The nonprofit is working on getting ahead of the crisis, ramping up stockpiles of oxygen concentrators, medications, and ventilators.Since the outbreak began, Direct Relief’s sent supplies to 31 countries, including over 1 million masks, 48,000 gowns, and over 1.6 million gloves.“These situations can feel so overwhelming, and it feels like it’s out of control and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. But really there is something we can do to stop it. The San Francisco-based home-sharing company is initiating legal proceedings against a guest who held an unauthorized party at a home in Sacramento County, California, last weekend. Three people were shot and injured at the party. Airbnb wouldn’t release the guest’s name but says it has removed the guest from its platform.
