A maker of the Carolina reaper hot pepper is defending distributing the pepper after a man became hospitalized from eating the pepper, the UK's Sky News reported. The Carolina reaper was named the world's hottest pepper last year by the Guinness Book of World Records. The pepper is rated at 2.2 million Scoville heat units. By comparison, a jalapeno is rated up to 8,000 Scoville heat units. A habanero is rated up to 300,000 Scoville heat units. An article in last week's British Medical Journal claimed that a 34-year-old man was hospitalized for eating the pepper during a hot pepper eating contest. The man experienced "thunderclap" headaches, The report also claimed the man's arteries had constricted after consuming the pepper. But Salvatore Genovese, a grower and distributor of the Carolina reaper, said the pepper should be eaten "correctly," according to the Sky News.  "It's not really designed to... just plonk it in your mouth and eat it," Genovese said. "I would never do that and I wouldn't recommend it."Just cook with it, make a curry, infuse it slowly take it out if you want to afterwards, and get the rich flavors from that super-hot chili."Genovese told Sky News he sold nearly 500,000 over the last few years without hearing any complaints. The unidentified 34-year-old man showed normal health five weeks after eating the pepper.  1458

A chaotic scene unfolded as a massive caravan of Honduran migrants reached the Guatemala-Mexico border Friday.What appeared to be tear gas was fired as the crowd pushed towards Mexican police at the border, CNN's Bill Weir reported from the scene."There are children in this crowd. ... A man is in custody after being accused of driving around the area of Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, California on Tuesday and vandalized at least 29 cars.Joey Head, 37, is in custody and faces 29 counts of felony vandalism charges, two counts of making criminal threats, two counts of brandishing a weapon and one count of driving on a suspended license.Witnesses included deputies who say this started around 4:30 p.m. and there is nearly ,000 worth of damage on these cars. 515

A family celebrating a birthday in the Wisconsin Dells ended up with bed bug bites for souvenirs.When Aisha Carr and the group of young girls checked into the resort they had big expectations. They wanted to have some fun, but they also wanted some clean comforters and not to be eaten alive by bedbugs.They woke up to the bites Saturday morning at the Baker’s Sunset Bay Resort."I started feeling around and I just so happened to scratch my arm and I felt like lines of bites," Carr said.Photos show Carr and some of the girls swelling up everywhere, covered in ugly red bedbug bites. The front desk was then immediately called."Our trip was pretty much ruined from that point,” Carr said, “It's just disheartening and upsetting. It was very humiliating."Scripps station WTMJ in Milwaukee reached out to the resort and an employee confirmed the bedbug case over the phone, saying Carr was provided compensation for her stay.She said they have an extremely clean resort, but with people coming and going all the time they believe someone brought them in.Carr said after going there for the past 12 years that may have been her last trip."Just all around a bad experience," she said. "It's no excuse for it, it's a zero tolerance."The employee at the resort added that a professional pest control company came to the resort Monday to treat the room. Carr said she has been using over the county allergy medicine to treat the bites.The creepy crawlers can be hard to spot and it's best to find the problem early. The EPA has some tips on what to look for. First, look for rusty or red-colored stains on bed sheets or mattresses.
