Spotify is launching a new, slimmed-down version of its app as it works to win more users in developing countries.The world's biggest music streaming platform on Tuesday launched "Spotify Lite" on smartphones running Google's Android operating system across Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East.It has been designed for users with slower internet connections or older smartphones with less storage.At only 10 megabytes, the new platform will be easier to download and can be used separately from the existing app for both free and premium streaming services.Spotify Lite will initially be available in 36 countries including Brazil, Mexico, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and India, where Spotify made its debut earlier this year."We have been very focused on expanding the company into India [and] the Middle East," Cecilia Qvist, Spotify's global head of markets, said at a tech conference in Hong Kong on Tuesday."This is a fantastic app to serve those networks ... equally strong, equally loud, but purposely built for emerging markets," she added.Spotify went public last year and has enjoyed strong growth. Earlier this year, it hit 100 million paid subscribers worldwide, and within six days of launching in India in late February, it claimed one million new sign-ups.Since then, the Swedish company has tried to tailor its offerings to users in different countries, especially in areas where many people are just starting to come online. Sears' decline continues to accelerate as on Friday the company announced that it will close 80 Sears and Kmart locations in March. The announcement came on the same day that Sears faced a deadline to find a seller for the company as part of its bankruptcy. The 80 locations that will close in March is in addition to 40 locations that are scheduled to be shuttered in February. Of the 80 locations to close, 43 are Sears stores and 37 are Kmart. Researchers from the British Psychological Society released a report last week challenging stereotypes on why people are obese. The report states that "obesity is not simply down to an individual’s lack of willpower." The report claims there are a number of circumstances, some of which beyond a person's control, for becoming obese. "The people who are most likely to be an unhealthy weight are those who have a high genetic risk of developing obesity and whose lives are also shaped by work, school and social environments that promote overeating and inactivity," the BPS report says. "People who live in deprived areas often experience high levels of stress, including major life challenges and trauma, often their neighborhoods offer few opportunities and incentives for physical activity and options for accessing affordable healthy food are limited.""Research evidence points strongly to genes being a major part of the explanation for why some people are more susceptible to becoming obese than others," the BPS report continues.The report comes as 40 percent of American adults are considered obese, according to CDC figures.Fat shaming does not workThree weeks ago, late night comedian Bill Maher gave a controversial dialog on obesity, which he admitted was "fat shaming." "Fat shaming doesn’t need to end it needs to make a comeback," he said. Maher added, "Being fat isn’t a birth defect. Nobody comes out of the womb needing to buy two seats on the airplane. SUMMIT COUNTY, Colorado — A skier was declared dead after he was found unconscious at the bottom of a ski run at Keystone Resort in Colorado on Saturday.Just before 12:30 p.m. local time on Dec. 22, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a 52-year-old male skier who was found not breathing at the bottom of one of the resort’s runs. There was no indication that he had collided with any object. Skiers on the run had started CPR when authorities arrived. The skier was transported to the Keystone Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the skier is being withheld until notification to the next of kin has been made by the Summit County Coroner. 708
