(KGTV) - A wellness center in La Mesa is accused of misleading patients by illegally marketing a breast cancer screening device, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA).This week, the FDA issued a formal warning to Total Thermal Imaging Inc. and its president and co-owner, Linda Hayes, for illegally marketing and distributing an unapproved thermography device as a sole screening device for breast cancer and other diseases, according to a press release.Thermography is heat-sensitive imaging depicted in variations of color.10News spoke to San Diego's Susan G. Komen breast cancer awareness organization, which says thermography alone is not enough. “It can be used in addition to a mammogram or other screening tool that has been shown effective but there hasn't been any scientific evidence for thermography right now being a standalone tool,” says Lizzie Wittig, Director of Mission Initiatives and Public Policy.The FDA is demanding a response within 15 working days.No one at the clinic answered the door. 10News called and sent messages, and got this text reply: "Total Thermal Imaging Inc. is reviewing the warning letter from the FDA and developing a response. We will work with the agency to ensure our products comply with acceptable regulations." This isn't the first time that a clinic has gotten a warning letter about thermography. (CNS) - A man was in custody Wednesday following his arrest for allegedly killing a fellow patient at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, authorities said.Jesse Martinez, 37, was booked on suspicion of murder and his bail was set at million, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.Martinez has been charged with murder, a hate crime enhancement, and elder abuse, according to the sheriff's department, which reported that he is scheduled to appear in Antelope Valley Court on Monday.The crime occurred about 9:45 a.m. Dec. 17 at the facility, where both men were being treated for COVID-19, the sheriff's department reported."(The victim) was housed in a two-person room inside the hospital with the suspect, who was also there receiving treatment," a sheriff's department statement said. "The suspect became upset when the victim started to pray. LEXINGTON, Ky. — A year of unexpected stress has caused at least one dietitian to see more patients with significant weight gain and heart disease, which she warns could become worse over the holidays.University of Kentucky Gill Heart and Vascular Institute Cardiopulmonary Rehab Dietitian Shorus Minella said the pandemic has caused weight gain to become an issue with more and more people to remain indoors and be more inactive than usual.Minella said an easy tip to staying healthy is to keep healthy foods on hand for snacking.She also shared her trick for practicing moderation "When you do feel like you want to snack and you're feeling stress to help pull back how much you're actually eating," Minella said. "I love potato chips so I make sure I put them in a little small bowl. Take the bowl away from the kitchen and away from the bag and once I'm done eating them out of that container that bowl, I'm done with my chips."With the season for special holiday treats in full swing, Minella explained how everyone can keep within their diets."You don't want to deprive yourself of the things that you possibly wouldn't get day-to-day all year round," she said. "So I like to say, save the calories for the little special things that you usually don't have. LEMON GROVE (CNS) - A man was jailed for stealing a deputy's patrol car at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station, sheriff's officials said Sunday. Matthew Brian Porter, 44, was arrested Saturday evening and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of evading deputies, theft of an emergency vehicle and fleeing police on a highway in the wrong direction, all felonies, according to jail records. At about 9 p.m., a deputy at the Lemon Grove Patrol Station was unloading his patrol car at the end of his shift, according to Lt. Mike Rand of the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. A man then got into the deputy's patrol car and drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle leaving the station and began a pursuit. But they lost sight of it as it drove eastbound on Broadway. A resident called 911 to report the abandoned patrol car in the 3500 block of Grove Street. Deputies located the vehicle and detained Porter, who allegedly admitted to stealing the patrol car. Porter's bail on the evading charge was set at ,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. 1080
