SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are investigating the murder of a man stabbed in the chest during a fight in San Diego's Southcrest neighborhood.San Diego Police homicide detectives were called to the 3400 block of Newton Avenue Wednesday just before 11:30 a.m., near Interstate 15 and just a block away from Emerson/Bandini Elementary School. Police said they found a man stabbed in the chest at least once, following a fight at a homeless encampment under I-15.The man died at UCSD Medical Center.Police said they have the suspect accused of the murder in custody after several homeless people who witnessed the fight helped police track the suspect down at a nearby park.Police have identified the victim but are not releasing his name. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Police are looking for the thief who committed a brazen robbery at a South Park metaphysical shop, stealing a ,000 crystal ball in broad daylight in front of store staff and other customers.The theft occurred Monday afternoon around 12:30 p.m. at Crystal Blue Vibrations, San Diego Police said. "This was a lot worse than we thought," co-owner Andrew Lucas told 10News. "That's when we went to the video tape and it showed everything."The thief could be seen casually walking through the store, chatting with an employee behind the counter. He then walked over to the front display, which included several large crystal spheres. He reached in to grab an expensive one, but knocked over a shelf, leaving shattered glass all over and drawing the attention of the employee. However, it appears the employee did not realize the man was attempting to steal the item. While the employee was focused on cleaning up the mess, the the thief can be seen grabbing the crystal ball, placing it on the ground, dribbling it like a soccer ball to the front door, then bending over to pick it up and walk out. "I thought I'd seen it all," Lucas said. "Yeah, it's pretty brazen. It's heartbreaking."Lucas says he plans to limit how much access customers have to certain items in the future. "And more security, but I guess that's what the world is coming to."A police report has been filed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 3,000 street lights in San Diego is expected to get ‘eyes and ears’ by the end of the month.Last year, the city announced that they would be retrofitting 3,200 street lights with smart technology.RELATED: Smart street lights coming to San Diego Nearly 3,000 of the “sensor packages” have been installed on existing street lights according to David Graham, Deputy Chief Operating Officer for Smart & Sustainable Communities.  However, they have not yet been activated.The technology on the street lights has a sort of camera and microphone.While it may seem a little “Big Brother-ish” to some, Graham assures the public they won’t be used for spying. The cameras and sensors would only collect data on parking, traffic congestion, and pedestrian safety. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Officials with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation say Donovan State Prison officials confiscated a cell phone Tuesday from an inmate who was allegedly using the phone to harass and threaten a woman in New York.According to Christina Neal, 37-year-old Brandon Baker, a prisoner serving 75 years to life at Donovan in South San Diego County, contacted her nearly two weeks ago.“I started getting messages from someone named Brandon Baker, but I had never heard of him before,” Neal said. Neal says Baker found her on Facebook through mutual friends and family members and then began sending her inappropriate messages through Facebook messenger.“He put ‘ma, what’s up, you looking really good. I’d like to get to know you,’” Neal said. “and he was like, ‘you're really sexy.’ And I didn't respond. So then a couple of days later, I got another message from him, and he's talking about my daughter.” “So I was just like ‘I don't know who you are. I don't know how you got pictures of me and my daughter, but please leave me alone, I'm married, and I don't want to have anything to do with you,’” Neal added.Neal says the tone of the messages escalated and Baker told her he would be getting out next month.“He said he was gonna come to my house and said he was gonna rape me,” she said. “I’m very nervous, just because hearing what (he) did, (he) doesn’t seem like (he’s) that nice of a person.”CDCR says they are investigating the case, and Baker could face more punishment depending on what they find on the phone they seized.They released the following statement:“Contraband cellphones are often used to in criminal and illicit activities, conduct drug trafficking, enable gang communication, and harass and intimidate victims and witnesses.
