Each state has its own set of guidelines when it comes to playing and practicing during this pandemic.Blackburn’s mother is a nurse fighting COVID-19 on the frontlines. So, he knows all about coronavirus concerns while watching from sidelines.“She has to take risks and then come home to her family just to make money,” he said. “Just wear your mask so we can put our helmets on.”That decision isn’t up to staff or students. At anytime, any state could call an audible and decide to keep fans out of the stands or even end the season.“We just hoping we have a season, period,” Blackburn said. “We really don’t care about fans, we’re just trying to bring this state championship home.”While playing in an empty stadium doesn’t bother Blackburn, a canceled season could cost communities something much more than just a game.“Without football in the South,” May said. “I think we would be in a world of hurt.” 2180

This particular bug is a member of the Enterococci family, which ranks as the fourth and fifth leading cause of sepsis, a life-threatening bloodstream infection, in North America and Europe, respectively.Many hospital-acquired infections have decreased or been kept in check by Australia's strict hygiene practices that rely on alcohol-based hand sanitizers. International auction house Bonhams has canceled an upcoming sale of rhino products amid mounting pressure from environmental groups, it was announced Friday.The auction, which was due to take place in Hong Kong next week, would have featured more than 20 antiques carved from rhino horn, including a vase, a hairpin, a pouring vessel and a variety of drinking cups.In a statement provided to CNN, Bonhams global CEO Matthew Girling said: "(We recognize) there are widely held concerns about this issue and have decided that the sale of the rhinoceros carving scheduled to take place in Hong Kong on 27 November will now not take place."An online catalog for the sale, which had been titled "Exceptional Chinese Rhinoceros Horn Carvings from the Angela Chua Collection," has been removed from the auction house's website.Girling also announced that Bonhams would join the likes of Christie's in barring rhino horn items from its auctions."In future Bonhams will not offer artifacts made entirely or partly from rhinoceros horn in its salerooms," the statement said.The decision follows objections from high-profile conservation groups, including WildAid. An online petition, addressed directly to Girling, called the auction "unethical" and "unsustainable," suggesting that the sale would stimulate poaching.The petition, which had been signed almost 10,000 times at the time of writing, also claimed that the sale was "quite likely illegal," and composed of "horns from recently poached rhinos" rather than antiques.Girling refuted such suggestions in his statement, claiming that all rhino carvings that pass through the auction house are antiques with "known provenance" and requisite licenses."Bonhams stands behind the professionalism and expertise of its specialists," he added.The use of rhino horn in Chinese art and crafts dates back millennia. It’s National Blood Donation Week and as countries around the world deal with the coronavirus pandemic, America is also suffering from a blood shortage.“We need 5,500 units or donations of blood everyday across our country,” said Brittany Calvert with Vitalant, one of the country’s oldest and largest nonprofit blood service providers.Helping try to fill that need are people like lifelong blood donor Karl Baines who donated blood at the Downtown Denver YMCA.“We waited a couple months until we felt things were safe but this is the second time we’ve given since COVID hit,” he said.Since COVID-19 hit, many blood drives have been canceled.“Typically, we partner with corporations, businesses and schools,” Calvert said. “Right now, they really can’t commit to host blood drives.”Calvert says with COVID-19 making blood drives much more difficult to hold, YMCAs across the country started helping by providing large indoor spaces that can accommodate social distancing and allow for blood to be collected safely.“They really stepped up and opened their doors,” she said. “We’re doing multiple blood drives a month in the YMCAs.”In addition to the blood drive, Vitalant is also testing for COVID-19 antibodies, a move questioned by some medical experts, but blood donor leaders say it’s well worth the investment.“We know that this is an experimental and investigational treatment,” Calvert said. “But hospitals want it and so we are doing everything that we can to provide them with what they need to support the patients that they are treating right now for COVID-19.”With bags of donated blood having a shelf life of about six weeks, Calvert is calling on more people to be like Baines and become a blood donor during this crisis. 1742
