OTAY MESA (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the names of a 70-year- old man and the two San Diego police officers who shot him in Otay Valley Regional Park in Otay Mesa when he allegedly pulled out a handgun that turned out to be a replica.Around 6 a.m. Thursday, Officers Jeremy Huff and Filip Perry from the Neighborhood Policing Division were in the park, near the 500 block of Beyer Way, to conduct an outreach and cleanup operation in conjunction with other city agencies when they encountered Carlos Soto, who was staying in an illegal encampment, according to Lt. Andra Brown of the San Diego Police Department."When officers approached the man, he produced a handgun," Brown said. "Officers gave the man commands to get on the ground. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) - A full-page ad published in the Sunday Union-Tribune is creating waves in the effort to save San Diego beaches. Save Oceanside Sand is a North County group who started about three months ago to help protect the beaches in Oceanside after decades of erosion. Co-founder Dirk Ackema tells 10News, “When that ad came out in the Sunday paper we were so excited, so surprised, so curious.” We did some digging and found out Christie Walton posted the ad. Not only is she an avid surfer and San Diego resident, she is the daughter-in-law to the founders of Walmart. Both Walton and Save Oceanside Sand have similar perspectives when it comes to saving the sand. They believe in installing jetties and backfill beaches to protect the sand. In the ad, Walton talks about the current dredging method as not being a long term solution for San Diego Coast. The installation of jetties and groins to protect coastlines has been used around the world. Walton even looks to the specific groin used in Hawaii as an option to be used here in San Diego. Save Oceanside Sand has grown traction throughout the community over the past few months and are looking to expand further now knowing Walton could be a major ally. 1229

OAK PARK, Mich. — The city of Oak Park, Michigan will host its annual Boo Bash Halloween event next Wednesday, but they are not allowing anyone to come as a clown.On the event page, the city says people can bring children in their favorite Halloween costumes, collect candy down the trick-or-treat street and enjoy cider and donuts. OCEANSIDE, Calif., (KGTV) — The regional shutdown of many business sectors begins Sunday at 11:59 p.m., leaving thousands of people jobless in the middle of the holiday season.Donald Murray is a regular customer at Copperwood Barber Shop in Oceanside."[I get the] 'High and tight' I guess is what they call it," Murray laughed. "Low maintenance."Brothers Allen and Sherman Morris opened the shop in 1988, serving thousands of customers simple cuts. But this year, business has been anything but simple."We don't understand why they keep shutting us down," barber Adriana Hinojosa sighed.Hinojosa says since the pandemic began in March, customer numbers dipped under 50%. Owner Sherman Morris has not been into his shop due to health risks."We don't want him to get sick," Hinojosa said.The old school shop made adjustments with every new restriction, serving customers in every other chair, buying sanitation goods, and even going outside for a few weeks."This summer, it was hot, we were sweating, the customers were sweating, so it was kind of hard," Hinojosa said.But once again, they must shut their doors completely.
