(KGTV) - For the third time in recent months, a local Boy Scout troop is coping with a heartbreaking theft.As they were getting ready to leave on a camping trip Friday, Boy Scout Troop 722 in Vista realized their camping trailer was gone.Without a trailer, future trips are now in jeopardy.The trailer was parked in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church parking lot when someone broke the padlock and stole the trailer. Because the troop has dealt with vandalism in the past, all their gear is kept in a shipping container. The trailer has a unique bolt on its door, which was put in to prevent people from breaking in.Replacing the trailer will cost the troop ,000.Community members can donate on a Go Fund Me page set up for the troop. If you spot the trailer, contact the Vista Sheriff's Department.In September, a Chula Vista Troop's trailer was stolen, as well as one earlier this month one in University City. WASHINGTON (AP) — For decades, there were tales from fishermen and tourists, even lots of photos, of a mysterious killer whale that just didn't look like all the others, but scientists had never seen one.Now they have.An international team of researchers says they found a couple dozen of these distinctly different orcas roaming in the oceans off southern Chile in January. Scientists are waiting for DNA tests from a tissue sample but think it may be a distinct species.The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration felt confident enough to trumpet the discovery of the long rumored killer whale on Thursday. Some outside experts were more cautious, acknowledging the whales are different, but saying they'd wait for the test results to answer the species question."This is the most different looking killer whale I've ever seen," said Robert Pitman, a NOAA marine ecologist in San Diego. He was part of the team that spotted the orcas off Cape Horn at the tip of South America.How different? The whale's signature large white eye patch is tiny on these new guys, barely noticeable. Their heads are a bit more rounded and less sleek than normal killer whales and their dorsal fins are narrower and pointed.They likely mostly eat fish, not marine mammals like seals, as other killer whales do, Pitman said. Fishermen have complained about how good they are at poaching off fishing lines, snatching 200-pound fish away.Pitman said they are so different they probably can't breed with other killer whales and are likely a new species. At 20 to 25 feet long (6 to 7.5 meters), they are slightly smaller than most killer whales. In the Southern Hemisphere, killer whales are considered all one species, classified in types A through C. This one is called type D or subantarctic killer whales.Michael McGowen, marine mammal curator at the Smithsonian, said calling it a new species without genetic data may be premature. Still, he said, "I think it's pretty remarkable that there are still many things out there in the ocean like a huge killer whale that we don't know about."Scientists have heard about these distinctive whales ever since a mass stranding in New Zealand in 1955. Scientists initially thought it could be one family of killer whales that had a specific mutation, but the January discovery and all the photos in between point to a different type, Pitman said.He said they are hard to find because they live far south and away from shore, unlike most killer whales."The type D killer whale lives in the most inhospitable waters on the planet. It's a good place to hide."Pitman got interested in this mysterious killer whale when he was shown a photograph in 2005. When he and others decided to go find them, they followed the advice and directions of South American fishermen, who had seen the whales poaching their fish.After weeks of waiting, about 25 of the whales came up to the scientist's boat, looking like they expected to be fed. Equipment problems prevented the scientists from recording enough of the whale songs, but they used a crossbow to get a tissue sample. Pitman said the whales are so big and their skin so tough that it didn't hurt them, saying the arrow "is like a soda straw bouncing off a truck tire."Pitman said he'll never forget Jan. 21 when he finally saw his first and then a bunch of the type D orcas."For 14 years I was looking for these guys. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Authorities are asking for the public’s help searching for the suspects they say stole ,000 worth of coins and silver from an antique coin shop.Deputies say the burglary happened at the California Numismatic Funding at 9:50 p.m. on April 21.According to deputies, the five suspects broke in through the back door and used crowbars to get through a security gate.RELATED: Four teenagers beaten, stabbed during City Heights robberyThe suspects were able to get away with antique coins and silver valued at roughly ,000.Surveillance video shows the suspects arriving in two separate vehicles before breaking into the back of the business.One of the suspects kept watch while the others burglarized the coin shop.Anyone with information is asked to call the Vista Sheriff’s Station at 760-940-4551 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. He is the Director of the Hospitality Innovation Lab and the Director or the E-Sports Lab at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) International Gaming Institute. “So when March hit and everything shut down, it suddenly gave a moment where everyone took a step and went woah.“Doors are reopening. You’ll still find the bright lights, restaurants and casinos Vegas is known for, but most businesses have now pivoted to a new focus -- safety.That’s where people like James Swanson come in.“We tried to make it as simple and inexpensive as possible,” Swanson said. In 2019, over one-third of Americans said they visited a casino within the previous year, contributing to an industry that generates billions of dollars annually in state and local tax revenue, according to the American Gaming Association. To get those visitors back, casinos had to do more than install plastic.“We’ve put Plexiglas between the counters, we’ve spaced out the seats and couches in each of the race and sports books, and we make sure that our customers as well as our employees are always wearing masks, and socially distancing,” George Kliavkoff, President of Entertainment and Sports for MGM Resorts, said. “We’ve also introduced kiosks which allow people to sign up and place bets without having to go to a counter.“Kliavkoff said even with the safety measures in place, fewer bets are being placed the old-fashioned way.“When everything was shut down across the company and all of our hotels and casinos were shuttered, we were still making revenue with sports betting and iGaming. iGaming is online casino and poker and that actually surged as a business during the COVID shutdown,” he said. “Even if they’re in the sportsbook and enjoying watching the game in the sportsbook, we prefer them be placing their bets on the app, so that’s an embrace of the mobile technology.”While online betting and gambling isn’t legal in all states, MGM has created a platform for it called BetMGM. MGM Resorts recently attracted a billion investment from IAC. The company cited interest in MGM's online gaming and sports betting business. “We think that in four or five years, 38 states including a vast majority of the U.S. population will have legalized sports gaming and most of that will be done on mobile,” Kliavkoff said.“In those jurisdictions where online gambling is legal, there's this big surge of players. All of a sudden a lot of people were gambling online,” Rippee said. “Because it was legal and you could do it at home.” He sees online as a big opportunity for casinos as people’s priorities with travel change.“There are going to be some lasting changes,” he said.As tourists trickle back into casinos, the potential for online gambling is getting a lot of attention. But until it’s legal in more states, casinos are making a gamble on safety measures to bring customers back in.“Vegas always comes back, but that excitement is tempered.
