(KGTV) — A beloved visitor center and community "treasure" designed by a famed artist is routinely being turned into a trashed party pad.The small building, dubbed the Hubbell Kiosk, is located in the Crestridge Ecological Reserve. Designed by famed artist and architect James Hubbell, the partial build was destroyed by the Cedar Fire in 2003. The wood, clay and straw-filled project was rebuilt several years later.Then last month, Lands Manager Kyle Smith discovered a smashed skylight and a mess inside."Vomit, beer bottles, drug paraphernalia. It looked like a war zone went off," said Smith.The scene they left behind, including wrecked displays and broken chairs, has become a familiar one.Video surveillance has captured the party goers in five break-ins since early August. Some of the faces appear to be repeat revelers.The break-ins leads to thousands of dollars in repairs and extra security precautions. The first quake, which measured a 4.0 magnitude, was 1 kilometer east-northeast of the city at 6:13 p.m. The second quake was a 3.7 about 30 seconds later.A check of the U.S. Geological Survey's 'Did You Feel It' map showed shaking was reported in Calexico, about 12 miles away, and Yuma, Arizona.RELATED: Is there such a thing as earthquake weather?The quakes were "very quick", said an El Centro hotel clerk who did not wish to be identified.A server at Denny's said the shaking made his customers stand up out of concern, but no one was hurt.While no major damage has been reported, the quakes were strong enough to shake overhead lights and topple monitors on display at Staples, according to clerk Krosby Rider. 825

Neighbors are stepping in to fill the bellies of those in need.In El Cajon a bright yellow wooden box is perched next to the sidewalk. On it a sign reads, "Blessing Box".Inside it's stocked like a mini grocery store, with grains like rice and pasta, beans, canned vegetables and protein. Single serving hot chocolate, tea and oatmeal line the second shelf. On the top shelf, snacks, drinks, and items to round out a meal are ready for the taking.Andrea Roberts heard of a Blessing Box in 2018 on social media and immediately knew she needed one.Her friend had the same intuition and had her husband craft the wooden box. They surprised Roberts by dropping it off on her porch.Roberts painted the box, affixed a stand to it, and cemented the stand in the grass next to her sidewalk in September 2018.Momentum has been growing through social media and the urge to help during the pandemic."Yesterday was jam packed, I had several people come and bring stuff, so much stuff they left the excess on the porch," Roberts said.She lifted her garage door to unveil piles of food and shelves of canned food, illustrating the willingness to give by the community."I'm overwhelmed, really overwhelmed." Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's top expert on infectious diseases, gave a live interview with The Washington Post Monday as cases of COVID-19 are spiking across the country at unprecedented levels.Fauci's interview comes just ahead of Thanksgiving — an event that health experts warn could cause further spread of the virus despite warnings from the CDC against gathering in-person.While Fauci said every family needed to assess their own situation and make their own determination, he recommended that Thanksgiving gatherings should be limited to the members of a single household.He added that if Americans do travel to another home for Thanksgiving, he recommended everyone should wear masks while indoors, except when eating or drinking.In the month of November alone, more than 3 million people across the U.S. are confirmed to have contracted COVID-19. The 3 million cases represent about 25% of all cases the country has seen since the pandemic reached the U.S. in February.The spike in cases has prompted a frightening jump in hospitalizations and deaths linked to the virus. A record 83,000 people are currently battling COVID-19 in a hospital, and for the last week, an average of 1,400 people in the U.S. have died of the virus each day.Fauci said that if Americans don't follow common-sense public health measures over the Thanksgiving holiday, that it could exacerbate the current spike in cases. He said that within two or three weeks, the already steep spike in cases could become even steeper."The chances are that you will see a surge superimposed on a surge," Fauci said.Fauci again recommended that Americans adopt uniform mask-wearing, keep social distance, avoid large crowds, gather outdoors as opposed to indoors and continuously wash hands to avoid spreading the virus.There are some encouraging signs that there may be some relief soon. On Monday, AstraZeneca joined Pfizer and Moderna in reporting that initial studies show its vaccine candidate is 90% effective in preventing the virus. All three vaccines may soon be authorized for emergency use in the coming weeks.Fauci said he hopes the encouraging news on vaccines is an "incentive" for Americans to double down on public health measures."Help is on the way," Fauci said.Fauci said Pfizer's and Moderna's vaccines could be out for distribution as soon as mid-December. However, it will be initially rationed for people in vulnerable populations before becoming available to the general public by spring 2021.Finally, Fauci says he has not yet spoken to president-elect Joe Biden. While he did not go into specifics, his comments are consistent with the Trump administration's refusal to work with Biden's transition team. Dozens of wildfires are burning throughout California in August as news is emerging that a wildfire burning in Northern California is the largest in state history. The fires burning a few miles apart, known as the Mendocino Complex, started on July 27 and now encompasses an area the size of Los Angeles. 2018 also marks the second straight year California has recorded the state's largest wildfire following the Thomas Fire in 2017. A fire that began Monday is also spreading quickly in Orange County. Known as the Holy Fire, the blaze is tearing through fuel that has been accumulating for 40 years. Currently, nearly 30 wildfires are burning throughout California.
