BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- China did not lose its advantages in foreign trade despite global downturn and could retain foreign trade level above the global average once global economy recovered, a senior Chinese official said Saturday.     Yi Xiaozhun, vice commerce minister, was speaking at the Global Think Tank Summit that ended Saturday in Beijing.     Though China's foreign trade would not rise sharply as it did in the past few years, the country did not lose its foreign trade advantages thanks to policies to stimulate domestic demands, Yi said.     He said China had been diversifying foreign trade and reported increased trade with countries in Africa, Middle East, middle Asia and Latin America.     Yi also called for halt on protectionism, saying that protectionism had been picking up and about 40 percent of anti-dumping cases and 70 percent of anti-subsidy cases targeted China.     He called for pushing forward the Doha round negotiation, which he believed was key in fighting against protectionism.

TOKYO, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Japan and China vowed to promote cooperation on the topics of environment protection, technology trade and intellectual property rights (IPR) protection during their second high-level economic dialogue held here on Sunday. "China attaches great importance on saving the energy and protecting the ecology, while Japan has broad experience and advanced technologies on these areas," said Zhang Ping, chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission, "So the two countries can achieve win-win results through close cooperation." The officials were all members of a Chinese delegation which arrived here Saturday to attend the 2nd Sino-Japanese high-level economic dialogue    Zhang said in recent years China and Japan have already conducted active collaboration on energy and environment conservation. This has become a new highlight among the wide range of cooperation between the two countries and provided a new growing point for bilateral trade and economy.     He said more cooperation will be conducted on countermeasures of sandstorms, air pollution and treatment of garbage and sewage in small cities and towns.     The two sides also signed a contract to turn Shenyang, which used to be a heavy industrial city in China's northeast, into an environment conservation "sample city" through cooperation with Japan's Kawasaki of Kanagawa Prefecture, which is renowned for its recycling economy.     China and Japan also exchanged views on developing technology trade and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) cooperation.     "Japanese SMEs are very mature in technology and Chinese SMEs are growing fast. They should have huge potential for cooperation to tap into the vast market both inside and outside China," according to Chinese Commerce Minister Chen Deming.     Chen said China will continue to promote overseas business of SMEs and hoped Japan can help facilitate the process by measures such as easing visa controls.     Chen and his Japanese counterpart, Toshihiro Nikai, minister of economy, trade and industry, also talked on strengthening 3G telecommunications network building, opening up source code software and software and IT service outsourcing, as well as the compulsory certification system for information security products that Chinese government planned to introduce.     They signed a memorandum and established for the first time a working group to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).     "The working group will focus on information sharing of laws and regulations with regards to IPR, as well as the experience in the law enforcement," Chen said.     "Japan is a very advanced country in terms of IPR protection and we believe there are many experiences that China can learn," he added.     He said through efforts in recent years China has established its own IPR protection system. "China, as a developing country, will face a lot of problems in the process of enforcement, but we will not shun such problems."     "China and Japan have a broad range of economic cooperation. We will use the working group mechanism to solve problems in respect of IPR protection," Chen said.     The memorandum signed by Chen and Nikai stipulates that the intellectual property working group meet once a year. Nikai asked that the working group convene its first meeting by the end of the year.     The one-day dialogue, co-chaired by Wang and Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone, was attended by senior officials from the two countries.     The dialogue mechanism, first held in Beijing in December 2007, was jointly launched by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and then Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during Wen's trip to Japan in April 2007.

SHANGHAI, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese leader has urged a severe crackdown on pornographic Internet content, stressing that there should be no slackening of efforts to punish the "vulgar trend" in the cyberworld.     Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks during a five-day tour of the nation's biggest city, Shanghai, that ended Friday.     He said the construction of "green" website-surfing venues should be stepped up to offer minors a healthy social and cultural environment.     While visiting the construction site of the Shanghai World Expo2010, Li said the expo should be a showcase of the nation's cultural prosperity.     The expo would be another grand international festivity after the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Li said, noting that domestic and foreign journalists should be provided with favorable conditions in covering the event.     The official also stressed the importance of technical innovation and cultural reform while visiting local manufacturing companies and artistic troupes.

HELSINKI, June 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Finland on Thursday agreed to push for closer economic cooperation to tackle the ongoing global financial crisis.     Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang unveiled broad measures to work together with Finland to fight the global financial crisis after meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen. Li and Vanhanen joined a signing ceremony of several government and business agreements between the two sides, under which Li said China would purchase Finland's advanced environment-friendly technologies.     China would also send a large group of entrepreneurs to Finland within two weeks to make major purchases of Finnish goods, according to Li. BEIJING, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping on Monday urged Communist Party members and government officials to put more efforts in finding and correcting problems that may hinder scientific development and taint the image of the Party.     Xi, also member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the remarks during a meeting on the implementation of the Scientific Outlook on Development.     In September 2008, the CPC launched a one and a half year campaign to study and apply the Scientific Outlook on Development, a doctrine adopted by the Party at the 17th CPC National Congress in October 2007.     A total of 11 inspection teams were organized recently to check the results of the campaign in 16 provinces and autonomous regions as well as six central government departments including the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Agriculture.     Xi said the campaign had achieved obvious effects as many Party members had deeper understanding of the Scientific Outlook on Development.     However, Xi stressed Party members and officials still needed to do much more work to fully realize the problems in their work and learn to solve them.     "Coping with the financial crisis, ensuring steady and rapid economic development and the stability of society should be an important part of the campaign," he said.
