(KGTV) - A ruptured gas line forced one building to evacuate in Chula Vista Friday.Chula Vista fire crews discovered a one-inch gas line sheared with gas blowing in the 100 block of 3rd Avenue around 3 p.m. A nearby building was evacuated, according to CVFD.Nearby Fredericka Manor Retirement Community also advised its residents and visitors to shelter in place.Firefighters were not able to immediately determine the cause of the break. (KGTV) — Police are searching for an 81-year-old man who was last seen in the Otay Ranch Mall area.Chula Vista Police says Donald Mooring was last seen around 3 p.m. near the Otay Ranch Mall on Thursday. Police add that Mooring may be suffering from the effects of dementia.Mooring is described as a black man, 5-foot 9-inches tall, and weighing about 230 pounds. He may be driving a white 2010 Dodge Caravan with California plates "7CHU230".He is believed to be wearing a green plaid shirt, khaki pants, and black tennis shoes.Anyone with information on Mooring's whereabouts is asked to call CVPD at 619-691-5151. 643

Chick-fil-A thinks the future of fast food isn't in the restaurant; it's in your living room.Last week, the company opened up two prototype restaurants devoted exclusively to fulfilling delivery and catering orders. Over the summer, the company started testing out a meal kit service.Chick-fil-A believes people think about food the way they think about shopping: Why go to a store when you can order online? To stay ahead of that trend, Chick-fil-A is getting creative about how to reach people at home, work and parties — and it's miles ahead of the competition."Our mission is to be convenient," said Luke Pipkin, who works on innovation within the company's Beyond the Restaurant team, which is dedicated to exploring off-premise opportunities like delivery, catering and meal kits.The new restaurants don't have dining rooms, so the locations have larger kitchens. They're also cash-free: Customers have to use DoorDash or a credit or debit card. Chick-fil-A encourages customers to order directly from its mobile app. And Chick-fil-A put the locations by highways and major roads in Nashville and Louisville to facilitate deliveries.That makes the test locations "pretty differentiated from our regular restaurants," Pipkin said.Chick-fil-A isn't alone: All fast food companies are trying to figure out ways to reach people at home and get more customers to use their apps.Nearly two-thirds of consumers say that more fast food restaurants should offer delivery and takeout options, according to research company Mintel. And 46% said that they'd be more inclined to pick up an order from a restaurant if there was a dedicated pick-up area.Mintel also found that in the three months ending in September, 27% of people surveyed said they ordered delivery directly from a restaurant online or through an app, and 13% said they ordered delivery from a third party.The "off-premise business is really booming within the food service sector," said Amanda Topper, associate director of foodservice research at Mintel.Chick-fil-A is well ahead of the curve. While the chicken chain is going cashless and opening restaurants without dining rooms, competitors are working on streamlining their digital pickup areas and using promotions to raise awareness for their apps."They've seemed to be deploying a number of innovations ahead of the industry," said Melissa Wilson, a principal with the food service consulting company Technomic.Plus, catering is an important part of the restaurant's business. About "14% of Chick-fil-A customers try Chick-fil-a for the first time through catering," said Pipkin.Overall, Chick-fil-A's methods are working.The chain has grown "exponentially" in recent years, said Wilson. Chick-fil-A is a private company, so its sales figures aren't public, but Technomic's research found that Chick-fil-A generated billion in sales in 2017. Three years before that figure was about .8 billion, Wilson said."They test things very carefully," she added. "They are very thoughtful."Customers love Chick-fil-A. In a sector where customers tend to be brand-agnostic, "they benefit from having a really strong brand loyalty," said Topper.That may be why the brand is comfortable testing out creative concepts, she said. Customers are likely to stick with Chick-fil-A even if the meal kits or new locations are a flop.The company is moving slowly, for now. Meal kits are being offered for just a few months in Atlanta. If you're familiar with the song, then you know it's about the battle against breast cancer, and it's the mantra for a small business in Chula Vista. On the surface, it may appear to be an ordinary beauty salon. But there is nothing ordinary about what's happening at Rico's on 3rd. Anna Maria "Snooky" Rico is the owner, stylist, and angelic spirit of Rico's. "Everything that happens in this room is free of charge," says a smiling Rico. Rico is showing off a private room in her Third Avenue salon. It's home to the Loving You Through It Foundation, where over 800 women have transformed from cancer patients to cancer fighters. "Giving and serving others is good medicine," adds Rico. "It's good medicine to help others."Rico's medicine is pure love and compassion. When the women are ready, faced with the loss of their hair because of chemotherapy, she offers to either cut their hair or shave their heads and then helps them pick out head covers, scarves, or custom wigs provided by the American Cancer Society. "We try to meet them at their point of need," says Rico. "What is it that you would like for us to do for you today?"And there are so many grateful clients that Rico has served. "She's uh, she's like a sister to me," says Delia Calara. Calara was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She was given a pamphlet about Rico's services at the hospital. It was just what she needed during a desperate, dark time in her life. "You know when people come through here, we're apprehensive, we're fearful," says Calara through tears. "And then, when we leave, we're just overwhelmed, and I tell her I love her, and thank you."Kathleen Kubik, another client, was just diagnosed with breast cancer in April. In an attempt to explain the battle she was about to undergo, Rico reminded Kubik how soldiers shave their heads before entering the military. "They shave their heads, their hair because it's a hindrance for battle. That's what sold me," says Kubik. "We see them at their crisis moment. I know what it's like to be in that type of crisis," adds Rico. Snooky Rico knows the battle well because she too has been in those very same trenches, battling breast cancer. Rico herself is a cancer survivor. "One thing I always encourage the ladies is to never look at yourself through other people's eyes, to remember who you are," adds Rico. "You have to remember that you're a mother, you're a daughter, you're a sister, you're an aunt. All that you are to those people remember who you are." 2752
