A canceled chase in Akron, Ohio ended in a two-car crash with both drivers being arrested on warrants, according to police.Police said the crash happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday at an intersection.Police said they got behind a red Hyundai that was stolen and tried to pull the driver over when he took off. The driver reached speeds of around 80 mph when a supervisor canceled the chase. Police said the driver continued to accelerate and 30 seconds later they found the car crashed. The Hyundai hit a minivan and then a pole, a fire hydrant, another pole, before eventually coming to rest next door to an Akron fire station. The Hyundai was shredded in the crash leaving its trunk lid in a parking lot, part of its door wrapped around a traffic light pole and a wheel a hundred feet away.The driver of the stolen Hyundai had warrants and will be taken to jail after he is released from the hospital with what police say are minor injuries.The driver of the minivan was also a wanted felon and he will also be arrested after he is released from the hospital with what police say were minor injuries.  1131

A child had just moments to escape a carjacking when a thief jumped in the vehicle and sped off from a Detroit gas station, police say. According to Detroit Police, the female driver went inside the store to pay for gas. A man accused of running a multi-million dollar investment fraud scheme appeared in court for his preliminary hearing Monday.Jacob Cooper was the CEO of Total Wealth Management in San Diego. Prosecutors allege Cooper received a referral fee for placing clients’ money in certain funds. In many instances, Zipp said he received greater compensation through the referral fee than through his clients’ fees, creating a “blatant conflict of interest.”“He mainly was interested in whether a particular fund would enrich him, not whether it would enrich his paying client,” said Deputy District Attorney Rebecca Zipp.Zipp said Cooper had “no regard to investor goals or suitability for the investor.”Several clients testified in court Monday morning. Loren Engel said he and his wife both invested with TWM. He said they lost approximately 5,000. Engel was not aware Cooper and TWM were receiving what many victims described as kickbacks.“The risk of being defrauded is not a reasonable risk to assume,” Engel said, when the defense asked if he understood investments have risks.Many clients first learned about TWM through Cooper’s weekly radio show. A Boynton Beach, Florida woman accused of shooting her husband five times over HOA complaints will not be charged with attempted murder.State prosecutors declined to file charges against Lisa Barreca Thursday morning. Police arrested Barreca last month, saying she shot her husband and caused wounds to his head, both his arms, his right leg and back.Barreca planned to use the stand your ground defense.A spokesperson for the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office said the agency did not complete their investigation within the 30-day mandatory filing period. The SAO is able to file charges in the future, if they choose to do so.The Boynton Beach Police Department completed their investigation into the case, according to Public Information Officer Stephanie Slater.Barreca was ordered to be released on her own recognizance following a Thursday morning court hearing and the case was closed in court records. Barreca, who lives on Aspen Leaf Drive, was talking about HOA complaints with her husband Eric Barreca in their kitchen when he told police that the situation started to escalate.  The police report said that Lisa Barreca then went into the garage, retrieved her gun and shot him. Lisa Barreca was hospitalized and then was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail. Health experts have found it is more infectious than the original virus.“Let me tell you what, there is no evidence of nor reason to believe, it is not any more lethal or any more dangerous than the normal coronavirus, no evidence to suggest that, no reason to believe it,” said Admiral Brett Giroir, Assistant Secretary for Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).The variant has already been found in Australia, Denmark, South Africa and the Netherlands. Italy reports it has at least one patient infected with the mutation.While the U.K. works to control the new variant, several countries have banned flights coming from there, as well as countries where they've seen such infections.Despite the mutation, health officials remain adamant that it's important to get the COVID-19 vaccine.“There is also no evidence to suggest nor reason to believe that it would evade our vaccines that we have right now.
