SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Students from around San Diego are using a modern medium to learn and inspire.The Cesar Chavez Service Clubs, which has chapters at 22 local schools, has launched the "Chavistas Podcast."Once a month, they interview a local leader, learning that person's story. They hope it can inspire other kids to reach for the stars."We feel that, as a community of Chavistas, that we can get a good message of community out there," say Ariana Gallegos, the club supervisor.Gallegos has a background in radio broadcasting and uses that to help the kids craft their interviews."It's a beautiful experience that I get to bring the students to a setting that sometimes is hard to be at," says Galleos. "But it allows them to see that if I can do it, you can do it."Students in the club say it's been a fun experience. They hope other kids will listen and learn."When it turnes out good, it's really nice, just feeling like you accomplished something good," says Wilson Elementary 7th Grader Mecklin Montgomery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Sunday, doctors revealed President Donald Trump is taking a steroid, called Dexamethasone, as the latest medication for his coronavirus treatment."We just don't know what's going to happen next, things are very unpredictable," Dr. Christian Ramers, Chief of Population Health at Family Health Centers, said.Ramers has seen thousands of COVID-19 patients and says the disease has two phases, virus production and inflammatory. He said the shift generally happens seven to ten days in."Once things kind of shift, the damage actually comes more from the immune system's response than the virus itself," Ramers said, which is why a steroid like Dexamethasone is prescribed."Where it showed a decrease in mortality was in people who already required oxygen or if they were even sicker than that and were on ventilation," said Ramers, citing a study.Sunday, doctors stated the president received oxygen Friday before being taken to Walter Reed Medical Center, but said his oxygen levels only dipped to 94% and 93%. Normal levels are 95% and above.Ramers said studies show if you give the steroid too early or to someone who has a mild case, it could cause harm. "If you dial down the immune system too early or in a case that is really mild, you might have the opposite effect you're looking for," Ramers said.There's also a list of side effects."If you use them for a chronic basis or for more than a couple of days there is a long list of things it can cause. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The boy who was critically injured in a crash in San Ysidro joined his parents Friday outside the courthouse where the alleged driver is on trial.Prosecutors said Constantino Banda Acosta, an undocumented immigrant, was drunk May 6 when he hit the Lake family on their way home from Disneyland.Lennox Lake was hospitalized for 18 days with multiple skull fractures. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Surveillance video captured a group of thieves in action, targeting mail in Paradise Hills.After 11 p.m. Sunday on Grove View Road, the videos show a woman stroll by, a man and another woman following close behind.The group splits up. The two women are seen on one side of the road, glancing around.On the other side is the backpack-toting man, who appears to peer inside a mailbox.Soon after, a car pulls into Amanda Sewell's house.The women walk by and watch Sewell's aunt walk into the home, before possibly signaling the man.The man then walks up to Sewell's mailbox, grabs a bundle of mail and walks away. 642
