SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A UC San Diego fraternity was suspended as the school investigates multiple sexual assault allegations against some of its members. According to a report by The UCSD Guardian campus newspaper, at least four female students claimed they were sexually assaulted by members of the Sigma Chi fraternity in incidents over the course of the academic year. Details of the accusations came to light during sorority meetings last month, where chapter residents read written accounts from the alleged victims. An anonymous student who was at one of the meetings told the school newspaper that one woman claimed she was drugged at a Sigma Chi party when a fraternity member handed her a spiked drink that rendered her unconscious. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego sailor is on a mission to keep homeless veterans from going cold this winter.U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Gregory Ellis hopes to raise ,500 for winter jackets that convert into both sleeping bags and over-the-shoulder bags during the off-season.The jackets are made by the Detroit-based nonprofit The Empowerment Plan, which hires single parents from homeless shelters to sew the jackets. “Our homeless veteran community, many of them are very proud and don’t want to be a burden on anybody,” said Ellis.He plans to deliver the jackets to veterans staying at the Veterans Village of San Diego temporary bridge shelter, which houses nearly 200 homeless veterans. “A jacket that actually converts into a sleeping bag, that actually converts to an over-the-shoulder bag, it’s three times beneficial for them, so at least they’ll have something warm to put over their shoulders and keep them out of the elements.”Ellis says he wants veterans to know the community cares about them and is grateful for their service.You can donate to the fundraising effort here. 1099

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After questions from Team 10, organizers of KAABOO San Diego announced it was postponing this year's festival until 2021. Concertgoers told Team 10 they had difficulty reaching anyone for answers. “We all know this isn’t happening, there’s no festival taking place. Please just give us a refund,” said San Diego resident Vince Matthews.Matthews loves music and travels to festivals all across the country. He has been to KAABOO in Del Mar every year since it started in 2015. He spent more than 0 for early bird VIP tickets for this year’s KAABOO festival. “Last year was the first festival ever that I’ve done VIP and once I did it, I realized there was no going back to general admission!”With the pandemic and COVID cases rising, Matthews wanted to know what was going to happen with KAABOO. As more large events got canceled, he was convinced it was likely not going to take place. Still, he had yet to receive any concrete information from festival organizers.“I reached out to them usually every couple weeks by email,” Matthews said. “I get the same form email that says please be patient."Patience was running out. As of Monday early afternoon, the last update posted on KAABOO’s social media accounts was June 15th. It said, in part, that they “will need just a little more time to determine our position as it relates to this year’s installment of KAABOO.” It told fans they would be hearing from KAABOO shortly.Matthews is frustrated by the lack of communication as we now head into the month of August.“There's nobody touring, there is no festival, there is no lineup. It's not going to happen,” Matthews said.KAABOO is under new ownership. It was announced last year that Virgin Fest was taking over the brand. In addition to the new ownership, the festival was moving from the Del Mar Fairgrounds to Petco Park.As of Monday morning, it still listed the September festival dates on its website.Team 10 contacted Virgin Fest founder Jason Felts. On Twitter, he told investigator Melissa Mecija that emails went to “ticket buyers last week about a possible scaled down social distanced version for 2020.”However, he determined with cases increasing that it wasn’t “a safe decision in the end and not the multi-sensory experience that KAABOO guests experience or deserve.”Team 10 spoke to four people who bought tickets. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An El Centro teacher was arraigned Tuesday after she was accused of providing marijuana and alcohol to students on a school camping trip.Monique Garcia, 50, faces two felony charges and three misdemeanor charges garnering a maximum sentence of 8 years and 4 months in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.Deputy District Attorney Stephen Marquardt said a 17-year-old student on the trip gave Garcia a ride to a grocery store where she bought alcohol and then drove to a dispensary where she bought cannabis, including edibles.Marquardt said students were intoxicated and became sick after consuming the alcohol and/or cannabis.According to the Southwest High School website, Garcia was head of the math department. The Central Union High School District sent a statement to 10News reading in full: "In order to protect the integrity of the judicial process, Central Union High School District does not comment on ongoing or pending proceedings. Monique Garcia is no longer employed by the District. While on a trip back to California for a medical appointment her roommate said Semper had run away.“I had so many nightmares of what, where is he? Why did I not get a phone call?
