(KGTV) - Three boys are recovering from an angry wasp attack at a park in Cardiff.Along Windsor Road, feet from an elementary school, five boys between 7 and 14 years old were inside a private park in the Park Place community two Sundays ago. They were about a 100 feet from the fenceline along Windsor Road. Frank Bocchini's son was the oldest boy in the group."Doing what young boys do, exploring and having fun in nature," said Bocchini.The fun quickly turned into a nightmare."He saw the wasps and told the young boys to stay away from there," said Bocchini.Bocchini's son was the first to see the insects near a tunnel structure. "The wasps reacted quickly after he said that. It was a nest that quickly turned into a swarm...screaming and crying, because they were getting hit," said Bocchini.Three of the five kids were stung, including two 7-year-old boys who were stung dozens of times."The older boys were trying to get the wasps tangled in the young boys' hair," said Bocchini.Bocchini's son and another boy frantically tried to help the other children. "At one point, the whole jacket was covered in wasps on this young boy. He told the boy to take the jacket off and run," said Bocchini.That boy did, and eventually ran out of harm's way."He was upset and scared," said Bocchini. The 7-year-old boy ended up in the emergency room with 24 stings and hives on his body. The incident unfolded as wasp season should be wrapping up. Experts tell us the hot weather has extended the season along with the dangers.The property management company for Park Place confirmed a pest service relocated the yellow jackets. Experts say you should run from wasps, and running through trees and bushes may help slow them down. If you're stung, don't take the stinger out with tweezers. Instead, scrape it out with a credit card so you don't push more of the venom into your body. 1899

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon says he has tested positive for the coronavirus, but has only minor symptoms.Gordon said Wednesday that he plans to continue working remotely.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends people who test positive for the virus isolate themselves for 10 days.Gordon said on Nov. 13 that Wyoming residents need to be more responsible about preventing the spread of the coronavirus. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- Cameron Wetzler's downtown skate shop almost made the Guinness Book of World Records for being the smallest skate shop on Earth. Instead, the building could be torn down.In July, Wetzler subleased the 100-square-foot building in a downtown Carlsbad parking lot and opened Elm Street Board Shop. He had a local artist spruce up the outside with images of Carlsbad at sunset and a Freddie Krueger theme."All the kids have been skating here for two generations and anybody who lives down here always thought this should be a skate shop," he said. Wetzler's shop, and a vape shop next door, closed in October to make way for redevelopment. A Carlsbad family is proposing to turn the site into a glassblowing operation that would offer classes, demonstrations and shopping."The last thing we want to do is another coffee shop or condos," said Mary Devlin, who would own what's being called Barrio Glassworks. "We really wanted it to be part of the look of Carlsbad and to fit with sort of the real local community."Devlin said glassblowing is becoming rare these days, and was inspired after a trip to Murano Island in Venice with her son. CALEXICO, Calif. -- High school seniors around the country are coping with missed milestones like prom and walking across the graduation stage. "Our students invested 12, 13 years in their education, so we must invest in something to give them back, a ceremony they can be proud of," said John Moreno, principal of Aurora High Continuation in Calexico, California. Several of the students graduating will be the first in their families to get a diploma. Students come to the continuation school for a fresh start; many were at risk of not graduating. "It's a very big deal, many of them have not received any accolades, or any awards or any kind of recognition, any kind of victory. So when we see them with this victory, this is a big one," said Moreno. When graduation was canceled due to COVID-19, students and their families were devastated.So the district wanted to do something special, enlisting help from VEGO Pictures to create a virtual graduation. The Hollywood production company changed its business model seemingly overnight to create virtual graduations for schools around the country. The move also helped employ Hollywood producers and directors out of work due to the pandemic. With guidance from a VEGO Pictures producer, schools tape various clips they'd like to include in the virtual ceremony, and then the production company handles the rest. Customized for each school, the ceremony is a tribute to student's talents and achievements from the last four years. Anyone around the world can tune in to the virtual ceremony."I think it's pretty cool!" said Lorenzo Lopez, an Aurora High graduate. "Since it's going to be recorded and not in person, I can save it and watch it another time and show it to my kids and my grandkids."While disappointed they couldn't have a traditional ceremony, students say they're grateful to at least have this memory. 1879
