As a result, chaos would erupt sooner or later in the financial sector.The editorial concludes that China should gradually liberalize its financial industry, because a sudden torrent of foreign capital would be undesirable. It calls for a prudent approach to financial liberalization that would yield a productive outcome as evidenced over the past three decades of gradual financial reform whereby more market competition has been encouraged and distressed loans have been effectively curbed. Such a policy has shielded China from being hit as severely by the current financial crisis and enabled it to rebound quicker than other advanced nations.

YUSHU, Qinghai, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese authorities are working to protect the quake survivors in the northwestern province of Qinghai from potential secondary disasters.The government has provided sufficient food, drinking water and tents for more than 200,000 quake survivors, but landslides, floods and disease outbreaks may still threaten their lives.The magnitude 7.1 quake has killed at least 2,220 people, with 70 still missing and more than 12,000 injured.Recent rain has raised the risk of landslides as the devastating quake and aftershocks has destabilized mountain slopes. The rainy season starting in late May or early June will make the situation worse.A total of 139 survivors were evacuated to safety 7 km away from their make-shift homes in Changu Village of the quake-hit Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Region early Tuesday morning as rain-triggered landslides threatening their safety."It's still an arduous task to prevent and guard against secondary disasters," said Wang Jianbin, deputy director of the Qinghai provincial land and resources bureau.

This macroeconomic control policy is an action taken to fight against a crisis," he said.Tang believed that whether or not the policies are successful should be judged from the macro perspective instead of a micro perspective."China was able to resume its rapid growth first when the global economy was still going downhill," Tang said, "China also successfully kept the confidence of its people and enterprises, which is more important than anything else. Therefore, the government's macro control is very successful."

BEIJING, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Yu Zaiqing, vice president of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), on Wednesday paid tribute to the late former International Olympic Committee chief Juan Antonio Samaranch, naming him "an old friend of the Chinese people."Yu said in a statement, "Samaranch is an old friend of the Chinese people. He had always hoped that China could host an Olympic Games. And his wish was finally realized in 2008. The Chinese people thank him."Yu, who is also an International Olympic Committee vice president, added, "We want to express our deep condolences to the death of Mr. Samaranch.
