The kennel uses the same technology found in vehicles and headphones in order to protect dogs' sensitive ears from fireworks that could cause them to panic.Here's how it works: Microphones inside the kennel detect the sound of a firework and then omit an opposing frequency to cancel out the noise or reduce it almost entirely. The walls of the kennel are designed using high-density cork in order to add another degree of silence.The result is a futuristic-looking kennel that keeps canines content amid the "booms" and "crackles" of fireworks:The prototype was inspired by some of the cabin technology Ford employs in its own vehicle designs.“We wondered how the technologies we use in our cars could be applied to help in other situations. (KGTV) - A group of San Diego lawmakers, water agencies and business leaders are joining forces in opposition of a possible new state tax on tap water.Under the proposed State Senate Bill 623, Californians would see an additional 95 cents per month on their water bills.SB623 is one of two articles of legislation being discussed by state lawmakers that could see residents’ water bills go up by more than per month.The goal of the tax would be to clean polluted groundwater around the state, particularly agricultural areas where water is considered undrinkable -- with arsenic, lead and nitrate levels that have been compared to Flint, Michigan’s crisis.State Sen. Bill Monning (D-Carmel), who authored the bill, said SB623 "will establish the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund to provide an ongoing source of funding to finance water improvement projects throughout California.Approximately 300 water systems in California currently have pollutant violations, such as arsenic, lead, nitrates, and uranium that have been linked to nausea and vomiting, cancer, reduced mental functioning in children, nervous system decline, miscarriages, and numerous other health issues.Support of the fund will come from a fertilizer mill fee, a fee on dairies, and a fee assessed on water bills of no more than a month per household, and is anticipated to generate 0 million a year. Low-income rate exemptions are provided for households under 200% of the federal poverty level."Numerous agricultural groups and environmental organizations have come out in support of SB623, but many, including the San Diego County Taxpayers Association and other local groups, have said the bill is “counterproductive because it will make it harder for low-income residents to afford this necessity. (KGTV) — An 8-year-old Guatemalan boy in the care of U.S. Customs and Border Protection died shortly after midnight Tuesday in New Mexico, officials say.The child was in CBP custody when an agent noticed him showing signs of illness Monday. The child and his father were transferred to Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in New Mexico, where staff diagnosed the boy with a common cold and fever.The boy was released with prescriptions for Ibuprofen and amoxicillin later that day, officials said.RELATED: The final hours of Jakelin Caal Maquin, the Guatemalan girl who died in Border Patrol custodyMonday night, officials said the boy began vomiting and was taken back to the medical center, where officials say he died shortly after midnight Tuesday. Officials said more information would be released shortly.The boy's death is the second death of a child in CBP care this month. (KGTV) — Bombshell testimony was dropped on the third day of a Navy SEAL's trial over the fatal stabbing an injured teenage ISIS combatant in Iraq.Navy SEAL Special Operator First Class Corey Scott testified Thursday that he was responsible for the teen's death, not fellow SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher, who is accused of murdering the injured fighter after he was captured.Scott told the court that he held down the teen's breathing tube so that he couldn't breathe after seeing Gallagher stab the combatant. RELATED: Witness: Navy SEAL called dead prisoner an 'ISIS dirt bag'He added “he knew he was going to die” and didn't want the teen to suffer or be tortured, so he held his thumb over the teen's tracheal tube and suffocated him. Scott said his actions took place immediately after Gallagher stabbed the injured teen under the collar bone.During cross-examination, Scott told the court he doesn't want to see Gallagher go to jail or his family endure any further harm from the trial.Scott was deployed with the Navy Chief in 2017.RELATED: Prosecutor: Navy SEAL bragged he 'got' victim with knifeProsecutors say Scott cannot be persecuted for his testimony on the stand, but he can be prosecuted for perjury.
