SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - City of San Diego crews spent Monday preparing for the first significant rainfall since May. “With the first rains of the season in the forecast, crews are busy clearing critical drains, putting no parking signs along flood prone streets and installing backup generators for the City’s crucial storm water pump stations,” the City of San Diego posted on twitter. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials seized more than 10 tons of marijuana hidden behind a cargo shipment at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry this week.At about 9 a.m. Monday, an agent with U.S. Customs and Border Protection was inspecting a truck with a manifested shipment of "plastic garment hangers." The vehicle was referred to a secondary inspection where an x-ray machines would continue the inspection.During the secondary inspection, officers detected an anomaly which prompted another examination this time with a canine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City Council leaders on Tuesday approved the purchase and sale agreement that formalizes the sale of the Mission Valley stadium site to San Diego State University.Following the council's approval of the PSA, a required 30-day waiting period begins. After that, Mayor Kevin Faulconer will sign the agreement to complete the sale and begin the escrow period of the land.Transfer of ownership of the stadium site is expected to take place in early August. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — City officials say 55 people at the San Diego Convention Center's emergency homeless shelter have tested positive for COVID-19, as cases surge around the country.The individuals who tested positive include those suffering from homelessness and staff at the center, according to the City of San Diego.Those homeless individuals who tested positive will be moved to a local hotel managed by the county for public health use. Staff who tested positive have been notified and advised to stay home. Positive individuals will be kept off-site until it is deemed safe for them to return.The county has made testing available to all staff and residents at the center to halt any further spread and is working to determine if there is an impact to others at the Convention Center.Prior to this round of testing, there had been less than 30 positive tests at the Convention Center over the last nine months, the city says.The city says that individuals utilizing the Convention Center and staff have a daily temperature check and verbal questionnaire and must wear a face covering, and staff clean and sanitize surfaces and hands frequently.The new positive cases as COVID-19 cases surge across the county and state.
