Nine West Holdings, which owns the Nine West and Anne Klein brands, has filed for bankruptcy.Friday's chapter 11 filing shows that the company owes more than billion.Nine West said in a statement that it plans to sell Nine West and its Bandolino line to Authentic Brands Group. ABG owns Juicy Couture and Aéropostale, among others. The company's eponymous brand and Bandolino both sell women's shoes, handbags and accessories.Ralph Schipani, the struggling retailer's CEO, said that the restructuring will help the company reduce debt and increase growth by allowing it to focus on its stronger brands, like Anne Klein and One Jeanswear Group."This is the right step," Schipani said. "We will retain our strong, profitable and growing apparel, jewelry, and jeanswear businesses." He added that the changes should help the company to "be well positioned for the future."Nine West said it expects to continue operating normally during the bankruptcy process. The company, which has been owned by Sycamore Partners Management since 2014, joins a growing list of retailers that have filed for bankruptcy this year. Claire's filed for bankruptcy last month, and Toys "R" Us in September. The toy seller said recently that it is closing or selling all of its US stores.Last year, more than 7,000 stores closed, which set a record.Retailers have been struggling to compete with online retailers like Amazon, and suffering from the death of the mall. Many have also struggled to survive under mountains of debt.The-CNN-Wire 1524

NEW YORK — David Dinkins, the first Black mayor of New York City, died Monday at the age of 93.Dinkins was elected in 1989 and served as mayor from 1990 to 1993, making him the first and only Black man to serve as the city's mayor. He was born in 1927 in Trenton, New Jersey. He was drafted, served as a Marine and later graduated from Howard University and Brooklyn Law School. He served in the state assembly before later becoming president of the board of elections, a city clerk and Manhattan borough president.Dinkins defeated longtime incumbent Mayor Ed Koch in the Democratic primary in 1989 and later beat Rudy Giuliani on his path to City Hall.In his inaugural address, he vowed to be "mayor of all the people of New York" and declared, "we are all foot soldiers on the march to freedom."Dinkins was known for his reserved public demeanor and civility. He was an American voice in favor of anti-apartheid sanctions, and his policies as mayor reflected his support for South Africa. He also created the office of Special Commissioner of Investigations for schools, built a system of after hour youth centers called Beacon Schools, and worked to create an all civilian police complaint review board.According to a city biography, Dinkins was sharply criticized for his handling of racial strife in Crown Heights, a boycott of Korean Grocers in Brooklyn and civil unrest in Washington Heights. He also dealt with sluggish economic growth.Giuliani succeeded Dinkins in 1993 after one term in office. After leaving City Hall, Dinkins remained active in city politics and taught public affairs at Columbia University. The NYPD said initial indications were that he died of natural causes.Dinkins was married to his wife Joyce for more than 65 years, and together they had two children.Joyce Dinkins died in October. At the time, authorities thought he might be heading towards an Indian reservation near Mission, S.D.Stukenholtz said authorities found a rifle and the deputy's cell phone near where he escaped, but at the time believed Scott had a 40-caliber handgun.Authorities had been transporting Scott to a hearing on charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child, Stukenholtz said.According to police records found online, five counts were filed against Scott on June 16: two enhanced counts of first-degree sexual assault of a child, one enhanced counts of third-degree sexual assault of a child, one count of incest, one count of child abuse. Netflix plans to establish one of the largest production hubs in North America with an expansion of its existing studio complex in New Mexico and a commitment to an additional billion in production spending, government and corporate leaders announced Monday.Ten new stages, post-production services, offices, mills, backlots and other infrastructure would be added to Netflix’s growing campus on the southern edge of Albuquerque. Aside from construction jobs, the project is expected to result in 1,000 production jobs over the next decade.Netflix first marked its presence in New Mexico in 2018, when it announced it was buying Albuquerque Studios and pledged billion in spending over a decade. At the time, government officials saw the move as a transformative victory for a state that has struggled to lessen its reliance on federal funding and oil and gas development.“I am glad Netflix has chosen to double-down on its commitment to our state, and our partnership will continue to grow for the benefit of New Mexicans across the board,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement.Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos pointed to the proximity to Los Angeles, the crew base and local talent as reasons for the continued investment.“It allows us to be more nimble in executing our production plans while cementing the status of the region as one of the leading production centers in North America,” he said.A total of million in state and local economic development funding will be funneled toward the expansion, and industrial revenue bonds will be issued by the city of Albuquerque to help reduce some taxes for Netflix. The footprint of the production hub will grow with a private land purchase and a lease involving state trust land. The Albuquerque Development Commission signed off on the proposal Monday. The City Council still must give its approval.Over the last 20 years, the film and television industry has become an economic force in New Mexico, with direct spending topping 5 million in the last fiscal year.“This is all outside money coming into the state, which would not be here otherwise,” state Economic Development Secretary Alicia J. Keyes told the commission during a meeting. She said the partnership with Netflix should send a signal that New Mexico is the place to be for film and television production. Businesses have cropped up around the state to support the industry, she said, and data from the state film office suggests 40% of production budgets go to small, local vendors.“So it really is trickling through our economy,” she said.As part of the proposed investment, Netflix has committed to providing training programs in partnership with the New Mexico Film Office, local universities and industry organizations. Netflix also has committed to supporting Native American, Latino, Black and other underrepresented content creators and filmmakers.Since coming to New Mexico in 2018, Netflix said it has spent more than 0 million, used more than 2,000 production vendors and hired more than 1,600 cast and crew members.Netflix is in production in New Mexico on the original films “The Harder They Fall” and “Intrusion” and is expected to soon begin filming “Stranger Things 4” in Albuquerque. 3242

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Mary Trump called on her uncle, President Donald Trump, to resign during her first television interview since the release of her tell-all book. While speaking with ABC News, she also discussed visiting President Trump in the White House in 2017, a few months after the inauguration. In one clip from the interview, Mary Trump essentially says that her uncle is unfit for office and dangerous."And I just remember thinking, 'he seems tired. He seems like this is not what he signed up for, if he even knows what he signed up for.' And I thought his response was actually more enlightening than my statement. And he said, 'they won't get me.' And so far, looks like he's right," she said. When George Stephanopoulos asked Mary Trump what she would say to her uncle if she was in the Oval Office today, she said, “resign.” She thinks the president is incapable of leading the country and said it’s dangerous to allow him to do so.President Trump's brother, Robert, took Mary Trump and her publisher to court to try to block the book's release and block Mary Trump from talking about it. However, on Monday, the New York State Supreme Court lifted a temporary restraining order, allowing the author to promote her book.Mary Trump is the daughter of Fred Trump Jr., who died after a long bout with alcoholism. During the interview, she claimed her father was “punished for being kind, for being generous… for having interests outside what my grandfather thought was acceptable.”Mary Trump’s ABC interview reflects much of what’s detailed in her book, "Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man." In it, she writes a scathing depiction of her uncle, drawing on her own memories, conversations with relatives, and pertinent documents. 1787
