YUBA CITY, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say two crop-dusting planes have crashed in midair over a Northern California rice field, killing both pilots. The Sutter County Sheriff's Office says the single-engine Grumman Ag Cats were seeding the field at the time of Wednesday's collision. The pilots died at the scene north of Sacramento. They're identified as 63-year-old Brian VanDyke of Rio Oso and 59-year-old Burton Haughey of Wheatland.Authorities say Haughey was found inside his aircraft and VanDyke was found on the ground outside his wrecked plane. There's no immediate word on what caused the crash but the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate. 666
Yes, buying that wide-eyed Shiba Inu puppy with your partner may bring loads of joy to your family. But this dog — we’ll call him Balto — may also come with a taste for pricey kibble and, down the road, a surprise 0 surgery.Ultimately, Balto and his needs are expenses that you and your significant other will share. in Seymour, Indiana, on Thursday morning.According to information from Safe Haven Baby Boxes, a healthy baby was safely surrendered in the baby box at the Seymour fire station. The baby was immediately transported to a local hospital for care."We are proud to have this resource available for the residents of Seymour, Indiana," Fire Chief Brad Lucas said in a release. "We strive everyday to ensure the safety of our residents and this is just a way to ensure the safety of newborns."The baby box in Seymour became available last year when Hunter Wart, a high school senior, raised the money to place the box in the fire station. The fire department was notified by the alarm as soon as the newborn's mother opened the outside door to place the baby in the box. Within 60 seconds, the newborn baby was retrieved from the box and received medical care. "This mother loved this child and it takes a very special person to want what's best for a child and know that it's not her," Monica Kelsey, founder of Safe Haven Baby Boxes, said. "That's the ultimate act of selflessness. I'm so thankful she chose a safe place to surrender her child and not a dumpster or trash can like we see too many times."This is the fifth baby surrendered in a baby box in the past two years in Indiana and the third to be surrendered in the past 134 days.According to information from Safe Haven Baby Boxes, the company has helped 68 women and infants with safe surrenders, assisted with 6 adoption plans, and have referred hundreds to pregnancy crisis centers around the country. The Safe Haven Baby Boxes Crisis Line (1-866-99Baby1) is available for women to speak to a licensed counselor if they are considering surrendering their baby and also to provide ongoing counseling to women who have surrendered. There are 21 active baby boxes in Indiana and 25 boxes in three states. 1858
about the danger of lice.Optometrists say they've seen more cases of "lash lice" due to the new trend. Many people who get the extensions are afraid to wash their lashes because their extensions may fall out.Experts say that not washing eyelashes can increase bacteria and lead to infection. Even worse, lice can show up, and they can spread.Doctors say cleaning is critical."We recommend tea tree-based cleanser," Dr. Sairah Malik said. "Any cleanser that has a diluted form of tea tree. And it is a good idea to use it on a daily basis."Doctors also say that it is a good idea to give your eyes a break from lash extensions every once in a while. This story was originally published by 689
— a mystery that remains in hot debate even today.KNXV reached out to several aviation experts who theorized the lights seen Sunday could be from parachute flares used by the military or even helicopters or other aircraft dropping flares during training. In fact, the Outlaw Military Operations Area sits not far from where the video was shot. But video found online of those types of exercises just doesn't seem to match."There were no navigation lights, even the military has to have navigation lights on, that's an FAA rule," Maier said.KNXV reached out to the Federal Aviation Administration, Luke Air Force Base and the Army National Guard, but none could say for certain what it was, leaving the answer to what was caught on camera to anyone's guess."I know what I saw, and I don't think it was from here, and I think it was definitely something else," Maier said. This story was originally published by 908
