SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local family says they were fighting to get back thousands of dollars in family heirlooms. They only got answers, they say, after Team 10 stepped in. "It makes me sick. It's really emotional," said Jill Robertson of Escondido. We interviewed Jill with her son, Jon, and his girlfriend, Megan Gielczyk. Jill and Jon shared with us a few of the limited old pictures they could find of their family heirlooms.She pointed to a photo of her late father wearing a ring. It was one of the pieces of sentimental jewelry that she said her family had given to local jeweler Mark Himmel to redesign. Jon said he was planning to use one of the rings to propose to his girlfriend but he added that the proposal and engagement were put on hold because Himmel hadn't returned their jewelry. Records verify that Himmel operates Sa-Ling Jewelry Imports Incorporated in San Diego. The Robertsons said it was Aug. 12 when they gave him a down payment to redesign thousands of dollars in family jewelry. They said they had expected to have the job completed in two to three weeks, but we met with them almost two and a half months after they wrote out a down payment check."There's evasion. He's constantly evading," said Jill. Jon's girlfriend, Megan, told us Himmel hung up the phone on her. San Diego police confirm they showed up to Himmel's home, where he operates his business, to try to get answers. However, no one came to the door. Two days after Team 10 left Himmel a voicemail, the Robertsons said they got a priority mail package with some of the heirlooms, but not all of them. They said there was no explanation for the wait time or behavior. It was early last week when Team 10 started making calls and leaving voicemails for Himmel. None of Team 10's calls were returned.We made a second attempt to visit him in-person this Thursday and were successful. He told us he's sending out the remaining pair of earrings on Thursday and he will soon send a remaining gold nugget."It took two months this time because I handmade the ring," he told us.He spoke to Team 10 later over the phone. He said he was responsive to the Robertsons about his slight delays. He sent us what he said was a screenshot of a text exchange from mid-September when he notified them that the job would likely take another three weeks and they thanked him.  A representative with the California Franchise Tax Board notified Team 10 that Sa-Ling Jewelry Imports Inc. in San Diego was suspended on 07-03-2017 for unpaid liability with a current billable balance of ,336.81. The Better Business Bureau verified that the Robertsons filed a complaint. The BBB reported to Team 10 that it's the first complaint against Sa-Ling Jewelry, which has been in business for many years.  2810

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of breaking into a Pacific Beach home and sexually assaulting a sleeping woman earlier in the month, San Diego Police said.Jeffrey Hanze, also known as Jeffrey Hanre, was taken into custody in Los Angeles County by sheriff’s deputies at 3:45 a.m. No details about the arrest were released.Hanze entered a home in Pacific Beach through an open window about 2 a.m. the morning of October 1, San Diego Police said. RELATED: Police release photo of Pacific Beach sexual assault suspectInvestigators said Hanze sexually assaulted the woman who was sleeping, but left when she woke up.Hanze was considered armed and dangerous at the time of his arrest.10News checked Hanze's criminal background and found he has at least two felonies out of San Diego. He was also charged with several sex crimes in Arizona in 2011, including public sexual indecency, indecent exposure to a person 15 years old or more, and disorderly conduct. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Kensington sake bar and restaurant is getting creative to survive the latest COVID-19 shutdown orders.Like for so many businesses, the pandemic has been served up economic pain at Tanuki Sake Bar, where revenues have been cut in half.The most recent COVID-19 shutdown orders were a gut punch for Kai Ishii’s father, who opened the restaurant more than two years ago."Definitely disappointment on his part, and worry for his employees and the business," said Ishii.With the restaurant being takeout only, Ishii's family can only afford hours for one of their four servers."The biggest thing is the uncertainty of what’s next," said Ishii.What Ishii did do next is inspired partly from fast food."Definitely got some inspiration from In-N-Out, when they ask you, 'Do you want to eat in the car or take it home?"" said Ishii.But he knows the concept of in-car dining would only go so far."We wanted to give them something to occupy their attention," said Ishii.So Ishii bought an 18-foot-tall movie screen and a projector, and set them up in their modest parking lot — just 6 spaces. Last weekend, the sake bar started offering a pop-up Japanese movies and anime to go with dinner."We found a way to put audio in the car, so it's a lot more immersive," said Ishii.Each car can use wireless speakers for sound. The dinner for two and movie costs .Their first screening Saturday was sold out, and so is another screening later this week. Ishii is hoping to show two or three films a week, and its not just about the extra revenue."We have a lot of wonderful loyal customers, and we’re hoping the big screen will add to that ... create foot traffic, create buzz with the cars driving by and bring more attention for the restaurant and takeout orders ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A lawsuit was filed on Monday in San Diego County Superior Court against the County of San Diego, Registrar of Voters and other entities related to the ongoing battle over the future of the Julian volunteer fire department. Attorney and mayoral candidate Cory Briggs filed the suit and told 10News that the claim is that a group of former volunteer fire department board members made the decision to dissolve the department in secret meetings, and the County allegedly let it happen. For the past two years, locals have been in a contentious battle over the future of San Diego County's last all-volunteer fire department. Many residents believe the County should take over the department because it has more resources and money.Opponents don't trust the County and think that the department's volunteers can do a better job on their own. This morning, an independent regulatory agency conducted a final vote in favor of dissolving the department. A hearing on this new lawsuit is scheduled for Wednesday morning. 1041
