(KGTV) - The driver accused of killing a pregnant woman on Mother's Day in Ramona is at the East County Courthouse Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.Prosecutors say Andrew Milonis, 44, was driving under the influence and struck and killed 29-year-old Jessica Foderingham and her unborn daughter in May.Milonis is accused of leaving the scene on San Vicente Rd. and hiring a Lyft driver to take him to a bar.Milonis is facing eight felony charges, including murder. 504
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — El Cajon Police and the NAACP say they are trying to reach out to the family of a man hit and killed by a car last week after family and friends accused police of shooting the man.Police say the protest stemmed from a Nov. 25 traffic fatality involving Stephen Harris, 29, of El Cajon. Harris was hit by a vehicle just before 9 p.m. in the 300 block of West Chase Ave. and died at the scene, according to police.EPD says the driver who hit Harris remained at the scene and tried to provide first aid to him, along with the help of a passenger in the vehicle. Police do not suspect the driver of driving under the influence or speeding at the time of the crash. Witnesses told police Harris suddenly walked into the roadway at the time of the crash, EPD added.Surveillance footage reportedly showed Harris leaving a nearby convenience store and stumbling before the collision, police said. Officials said a toxicology report is being conducted, but police said preliminary testing showed drugs and alcohol in Harris' system at the time of his death.Family and friends of Harris arrived at the scene after the crash and accused police of being involved in Harris' death, saying officers were stalking him, shot him, and were trying to cover it up. During a protest on Nov. 30, family and friends continued their accusations against the department, with some protesters obstructing traffic. Police say at one point, a protester kicked a passing vehicle and another person reported that a protester pointed a handgun at them.EPD, the San Diego branch of the NAACP, and the county Medical Examiner's office say they have tried to contact Harris' family about his death, but that the family has not responded.Francine Maxwell, President of the San Diego branch of the NAACP, issued a statement saying in part that the police department is being as transparent as possible in Harris' death: 1919
EL CAJON (KGTV) - After 50 years of service, the well-known San Diego Highway Man is retiring. Thomas Weller has been helping thousands of people stuck on the side of the road since 1966. He tells 10News he started helping after a man helped him in a blizzard when he was a teenager living in Illinois.“I was on my way home about one or two in the morning and the blizzard put me off the road into a snow bank," said Weller.Weller says he never forgot that moment and hoped to be that saving grace for many others. Turns out he tells us he’s lost track of how many people he’s helped.“More than ten thousand, it's just I never keep track.” Weller had a stroke back in March and since then decided it’s best given his limited capabilities to retire.“I’ve lost my strength and my agility, not my judgment yet because I’m still driving.” He tells 10News it’s for the best that he retires because of how increasingly dangerous distracted driving has made the roads."It’s just extremely dangerous out there, more so now than it used to be.”While he is giving up one of his favorite passions in life, he isn’t giving up his outlook on life, “the most beautiful compensations of this life you cannot sincerely help another without helping yourself in the bargain.” 1266
DETROIT, Michigan — General Motors made a major announcement on Monday saying it will close two plants in metro Detroit as well as plants in Ohio and Canada. The plan will help save the company billion by 2020, according to GM.In a news release, the company said it will close the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Detroit and Warren Transmission Operations in Warren. Other plans closing include the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Oshawa, Ontario, the Lordstown Assembly in Warren, Ohio and the Baltimore Operations in White Marsh, Maryland.According to a spokesperson for GM, the plants will be unallocated which means they will no longer produce vehicles in those plants in 2019. (KGTV) — A vehicle crashed into an East County restaurant Wednesday, before the driver fled on foot and left behind a massive mess.The vehicle careened through the Ali Baba restaurant at 421 E. Main St. before 2:30 p.m., before the driver fled the scene a short distance to park the vehicle and continued to flee on foot, according to El Cajon Police.No one in the building was injured, but photos from Thair Behnan, the manager of the restaurant, showed a massive mess of shattered glass and wall.The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, wearing a white shirt, and jeans.Anyone with information on the incident or who locates the suspect is asked to call El Cajon Police at 619-579-3311. 718
