SHANGHAI, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- United States President Barack Obama is to meet with Shanghai Party chief Yu Zhengsheng on Monday and have a dialogue with Chinese youths afterwards before heading for Beijing in the afternoon. BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- China on Thursday warned that the rich nations should not "shift and shirk" responsibility on climate change, and urged them to provide developing countries with funds to deal with the global issue.     "According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), developed countries have responsibility to offer financial support to all developing countries on mitigating and adapting to climate change," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman told a regular news briefing.     "Funding is one of the key issues that will determine the success or failure of the Copenhagen conference. The offer of funds is the unshirkable responsibility of developed countries," said Jiang.     The UN Climate Change Conference, which opened Monday in Copenhagen, gathered representatives from 192 countries and aimed at mapping out a plan for combatting climate change from 2012 to 2020.     Financial support is a key issue at the talks.     Reports has quoted Todd Stern, U.S. special envoy for climate change, as saying that the United States would contribute to a fund aimed at helping developing nations deal with climate change, but China would not be a recipient of financial aid as it had a booming economy and large foreign exchange reserves.     "We hope that developed countries can positively respond to reasonable requests and suggestions from developing countries, demonstrate political sincerity and fulfil their obligations rather than shift and shirk responsibility," said Jiang.     "We hope the relevant parties make efforts to make the Copenhagen conference achieve results acceptable to all sides," Jiang said.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here Tuesday he and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama agreed during their talks to resolve the nuclear issues of the Korean Peninsula and Iran through dialogue.     "Both of us remain committed to resolving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula through dialogue and consultation," Hu said when meeting the press with Obama after their bilateral talks. "Such a commitment serves the common interests of China and the United States and all other parties concerned."     Hu said China and the United States will work with other parties concerned to stick to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the six-party talks process to safeguard the peace and stability of northeast Asia.     The two presidents stressed that it is very important for the stability in the Middle East and the Gulf Region to uphold the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and properly resolve the Iran nuclear issue through dialogue and negotiation, Hu said. 

BEIJING, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso exchanged views on climate change and China-EU cooperation on Monday during a telephone conversation.     The upcoming UN climate change conference in Copenhagen should aim to achieve positive results in the full, effective and sustained implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol, Wen said.     "Emphasis should be put on making clear and detailed arrangements for mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer and financing," he added.     "The key to success at the conference is to uphold the UNFCCC, the Kyoto Protocol, the principle of 'common but differentiated responsibilities' and the authorization of the Bali Road Map," he said.     President Hu Jintao had made clear China's position and specific measures at the UN climate change summit in September, he said.     The premier specified six aspects China will give priority to in its next steps. That included integrating actions on climate change into its economic and social development plan, implementing and improving the National Climate Change Program, promoting the green economy, and reinforcing the comprehensive capability in coping with climate change.     Work also needs to be done in improving legislation on dealing with climate change and boosting international exchanges and cooperation, Wen said.     China highly values its relations with the European Union and both sides should further deepen the strategic mutual trust and strengthen all-round cooperation under new conditions, Wen said.     China is ready to work with the EU to push for a success of the Copenhagen conference and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership with the EU, he added.     In the telephone conversation, Barroso briefed Wen on the EU's position and proposals on climate change.     Barroso said the EU appreciates China's efforts in coping with climate change and its achievements in energy saving and emission reduction.     The EU hopes to enhance coordination and cooperation with China to make sure the Copenhagen conference produces positive outcomes, and expects to make joint efforts with China to push bilateral cooperation to a new level, Barroso said.

TAIPEI, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), has called for calm response to the upcoming cross-Strait talks.     The SEF and the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS) plan to hold new round of talks in Taiwan's Taichung city on Dec. 22.     Chiang said issues to be discussed during the talks included labor cooperation in the fishing industry, cooperation in inspection and quarantine of agricultural products and standard measurement authentication and avoidance of double taxation.     Those issues were closely related to the health and benefits of people across the Strait, he said, adding that he hoped agreements could be reached to improve the foundation of cross-Strait relations.     It is the fourth round of talks since the SEF and the ARATS resumed negotiations in June last year following a 10-year suspension.
