SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Los Angeles County health officials are scrambling to prevent the spread of hepatitis A after three people became infected with the potentially deadly virus while in San Diego two months ago.In a motion filed by Los Angeles County's Fifth District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, she is asking the Dept. of Public Health to provide a report within 14 days on current efforts to stop an outbreak and a plan for response should one occur."At this time Public Health does not consider there to be a hepatitis A outbreak in Los Angeles County, however it is important that the County proactively educate the community on ways to prevent hepatitis A infection, and have a response plan in the event that the County does see an increase in hepatitis A cases," Barger said in her prevention plan.Citing public health officials, Barger says that the three people who acquired the infection had been in San Diego in mid-July.READ: Most hand sanitizers will not kill Hepatitis A?San Diego County health officials are in the midst of an hepatitis A epidemic with the first cases reported early this year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Local nurses are rallying for more protective equipment at our hospitals. 10News spoke with healthcare workers treating patients with coronavirus who say they're terrified for their own safety. ICU nurse, Michael Kennedy, describes what it's like on the front lines of Covid-19 at UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest. "As you can imagine it is kind of chaotic," said Kennedy. "We're basically having to beg for masks."He, like many other health care workers, is raising a sobering flag, saying they do not have enough face masks to protect themselves. Kennedy says they've been instructed to wear bandanas instead. USCD nurses held a rally to fight back against the shortage Friday morning. "We’re already rationing supplies and we are not getting the kind of transparency we need from UCSD, from state and local officials about what we have."It's a problem reported nationwide. The demand for personal protective equipment is soaring past supply. Here in San Diego, 10News has covered stories of the community coming together to fix that problem by donating supplies and even sewing together homemade masks. County Supervisor Greg Cox acknowledged the problem at a press conference Thursday. "We had a problem with the N95 masks that were in short supply," said Cox. Kennedy is now hoping the problem doesn't get even worse. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Longtime San Diego State football coach Rocky Long is stepping down after nine seasons.San Diego State officials announced Wednesday that Long will be replaced by Aztecs defensive line coach Brady Hoke.Hoke was SDSU's head coach in 2009 and 2010 before leaving to become head coach at Michigan.
