TAIPEI, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The economic authority of Taiwan has approved investment totaling 77.13 million U.S. dollars from the Chinese mainland, according to a statistics report released Monday.From the end of June last year when Taiwan opened to mainland investment, the authority had approved 52 investment projects on the island by the end of May, said the report from the authority.The top three industries for mainland investment -- accounting for 44.84 percent of the total mainland investment -- were computers, electronics and optical products manufacturing.At the same time, the mainland saw a sharp increase in investment from Taiwan. In the first five months of this year, the Taiwan authority approved investments in 187 projects on the mainland.New investment from Taiwan on the mainland from January to May totalled 4.59 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 239.9 percent.About 75 percent of the Taiwan investment in the first five months went to Jiangsu, Guangdong, Fujian and Shandong provinces, said the report.

LUOYANG, July 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has stressed economic restructuring, agricultural production and the role of grass-root party organizations during his visit to the city of Luoyang in central Henan province.Hu visited state-owned enterprises, research institutes and talked with local farmers during this trip from Friday through Sunday.At Citic Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., the largest manufacturer of mining machinery in China, Hu learned that the company had shifted focus from manufacturing to research and development. He said innovation is the lifeblood of a company.He also visited a tractor manufacturing plant and a bearing producing company, both enjoying rapid growth thanks to restructuring. Hu asked officials at the two companies to continue with their restructuring and their ongoing expansion through innovation.Hu also visited two research institutes. BEIJING, July 7 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health issued a circular Wednesday advising the nation's medical facilities to gear up for a rise in the number of people suffering from heat-stroke and other heat related ailments given the recent hot temperatures.The number of people suffering from heat-stroke and related disorders has risen sharply over the last few days, reads the circular without giving specific figures.Beijing-based Chaoyang hospital reported a significant increase of cases showing heat-induced symptoms such as dizziness, according to the Health News, the health ministry-run newspaper.The hospital has 450 such cases in emergency care each day now, compared to 360 cases just a few days ago.The ministry ordered hospitals across the nation to make sure people suffering from heat stroke get timely and proper treatment.Beijing reported an average temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius at 4 p.m. Monday, the highest temperature in the first 10 days of July in 50 years.The capital city cooled a little bit Wednesday, and rains are expected for China eastern regions starting Thursday, offering some respite.

TORONTO, Canada, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao visited an aircraft manufacturing facility on Saturday morning, in a gesture to show that China attaches importance to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with Canada.Bombardier, a Canada-based global manufacturer of planes and trains, has cooperation projects with China in the areas of civil aviation and rail transportation.It has been working with the Shenyang Aircraft Corporation (SAC) of China to jointly develop and manufacture the innovative C series of airplanes.Hu toured the factory to have a close look at the components of the Q400 aircraft, which was partly manufactured in Shenyang.
